*Marissa*
I woke up the next morning wishing the night before didn't happen. I got up and looked at the time. It was only 6:45 a.m. I didn't have to leave for school until 7:45 a.m. to make my 8:00 class. I decided to take a shower to wash my body off from anything that could be left over from last night. After I showered I put my hair in a messy bun and threw on my sweat pants and sweater. I always wore baggy clothes so people wouldn't look at me. My mother always told me that I was beautiful and I didn't need another man to try and seduce me.
I walked down the stairs to the kitchen. Usually, no one is downstairs at this time and I have my run of the place. Today was different. I found my mother and step-father in the kitchen dressed up. I walked in and went straight to the fridge grabbing some milk and a bowl out of the cupboard.
"Good morning, sweet pea." my mother said with a smile as she handed me a box of Cocoa Puffs.
"Good morning, mom." I replied grabbing the box and pouring it into my bowl.
"How did you sleep?" my step-father asked.
"I slept fine." I replied as I kept my head down pouring the milk into the bowl before I put it back in the fridge.
"Why do you always wear baggy clothes, sweet pea?" my mother asked. "You would look so pretty with a dress on."
"Yes you would." my father concurred. "Why don't you wear dresses? You would look so beautiful in them."
"I like my sweaters and sweat pants." I replied looking at my mom.
"Well then you aren't going to like what I have to say." my mom stated.
"What is it?" I asked.
"We have been invited to join Alpha Jonathan with a visit to a nearby pack. They are throwing a party for their anniversary and Alpha Jonathan is hoping to make a deal of peace with him. You will coming with us so we are going to need to go dress shopping." said my mom.
"When is the party?" I asked.
"In three days. So the day after your birthday." my step-father said.
"Okay, well I have to get to school."
"Okay, sweet pea. I'll be home a little late today so grab something to eat before coming home." my mom said.
"Okay I will."
"Don't be late." my step-father said.
I didn't reply and quickly grabbed my car keys and my phone before leaving. I climbed into the car and started driving to school. I pulled into the school parking lot and parked in my usual spot at the back. I climbed out of my car and noticed that my best friend was already there.
"Good morning Marissa." said Lucy.
"Good morning, Lucy." I replied.
Lucy and I have been best friends since first grade. Lucy was the opposite of me. She was fun and out going. Every one knew her name. She had strawberry blonde hair and the eyes as blue as the deep ocean. She was pale skinned and her wolf had brown fur. I was brown skinned with jet black hair and blue eyes that I took from my father. My wolf was white as the snow.
Lucy grabbed my arm and started dragging me to art class. She talked about random things like her lip gloss running out and how her hair didn't want to curl this morning. I walked in silence besides her as people threw good mornings at her and she responded to each person by name. No one noticed me or said hello. As we walked into art class, we walked straight to our seats. I pulled out my earphones and plugged them into my phone playing my music.
I didn't listen to the teacher as she talked about the different types of shading and how the movement of your tool can define your work. Teachers didn't pay much attention to me as I was a straight A student. I completed all my work assignments on time and made sure that all my tests were A's. i never studied for anything because everything I was taught, I remembered. I started working on my painting of the midnight summer dream. As I worked, I started thinking about how my painting all seemed dark and intense. My work always seemed to depress people when they look at it but it never showed the true story of the meaning behind the painting. As the school bell rang, I gathered up my paintbrushes and washed them before placing them in my box and leaving for my next class.
Classes continued with no one talking to me and I was dreading going home. When ever my mom told me she was going to be late, I knew what would happen. I would get out at 3:00 and be home by 3:30. My step-father would be waiting for me in his room and my mom wouldn't be home until 6:00 so he would go until 5:30 and then leave me alone to do homework. Sometimes I would try to get away with going to the library before heading home, but I would receive a beating during the night for not coming straight home and pleasing my step-father.
As the day continued, Lucy kept talking about how my birthday was going to be so much fun and how she got me the best birthday present. When the last bell rang, signaling the end of the day, we walked to our cars and said goodbye. I drove home in silence, mentally preparing myself for what was about to happen. As I pulled into the garage, I took a deep breath and climbed out walking to the door to meet my fate.
