How it all began

The heavy oak doors of Lyra's chamber opened with a soft creak. A young maid stepped inside and bowed respectfully, trying to hide the excitement in her eyes. "Lady Lyra," she said with a bright smile. "Alpha Kael is waiting for you in his chambers." Lyra felt her heartbeat quicken. She looked at herself one last time in the mirror. The elegant white gown flowed around her like moonlight, the silver embroidery shimmering with every movement. Her grandmother's moonstone necklace rested against her chest, glowing faintly under the candlelight. The silver crown her mother had placed on her head completed the image of the woman she had dreamed of becoming. Tonight she wouldn't simply be Lyra Ashwood. Tonight she would become the Luna of Blackthorn Pack. Her mother walked beside her and gently squeezed her hand. "You've been waiting for this day since you were a little girl." Lyra smiled softly. "I know." "I've never seen you this nervous." "I'm not nervous." Eleanor laughed. "You've adjusted your necklace six times in the last minute." Lyra looked down and realized her mother was right. She laughed with embarrassment. "Maybe... just a little." Her mother kissed her forehead. "Everything will be fine." Lyra wanted to believe those words. She truly did. Yet the strange feeling in her chest hadn't disappeared. It wasn't fear. It wasn't excitement. It was something she couldn't explain. A quiet voice deep inside whispered that something was wrong. She ignored it. After all, today was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. When she got there, she kept her face dtrayas she couldn't get her eye's of from kael and kael couldn't resist such beauty. "You're looking beautiful my lady" "Thank you and you're not looking bad also" "You will make a perfect luna so stop getting nervous" She giggled"you notice it too... By the way why did you call me here the ceremony will soon begin" "I wanted to see lyra for the last time before she will become luna" "But I won't change, I'm still the same" "I know"he muttered holding her hands as he looked into her blue eyes. Kissed her on her forehead,as the maids excuted her back to her chamber before the ceremony begins. It was time for the Alpha to be present in the ceremony,so kael left his courtyard and went straight to his throne awaiting his Luna. Then a messenger came in front of kael. Kael could see the horror in his eyes,he knew something was wrong. "What his it? Speak"he ordered with loud roar The messenger swallowed hard before answering. "My Alpha..." "...we have uncovered evidence of treason." A wave of shocked whispers swept through the crowd. The messenger looked up. Then, with trembling hands, he held up the scroll. Stamped clearly into the crimson wax was the unmistakable crest of the Ashwood family. Lyra walked into the court yard with smile not knowing what await her. But she could notice the cheering coming down and everyone looking straight into her eyes. As if there wanted to punk it,she notice the scroll in kael hands but couldn't actually tell what was that. Kael's expression darkened as he held the scroll. His fingers lingered on the bloodstained parchment for a moment before he slowly broke the wax seal. The courtyard became so silent that the crackling of the torches sounded deafening. Every noble, every elder, every warrior watched the Alpha. Lyra watched him too. She kept searching for answers,so she could process what was going on. But her heart was heavy, she knew that scroll held a lot that could destroy her. She kept on believing he would read whatever was written inside, laugh at the obvious lie, and order the messenger to investigate whoever had forged the document. He trusted her. Didn't he? Kael unfolded the parchment. His eyes scanned the first line. The color drained from his face. His jaw tightened. Shock. Disbelief. Then... Pain. "Kael?" Lyra asked softly. He didn't answer. The High Priest stepped closer. "My Alpha... what does it say?" Kael remained silent. His grip on the parchment tightened until his knuckles turned white. The messenger swallowed nervously. "My Alpha, our scouts captured a rogue attempting to cross the northern border before dawn. Hidden inside his cloak was that letter. Before he died, he claimed it was written by someone inside Blackthorn Castle." The whispers grew louder. "No..." "An informer?" "Someone betrayed the kingdom?" Lyra looked from the messenger to Kael. Her uneasiness grew stronger with every passing heartbeat. Finally, Kael lifted his eyes. They met hers. She had looked into those gray eyes thousands of times. She had seen love. Laughter. Determination. Comfort. But never this. It was as though an invisible wall had risen between them. "Kael," she whispered, forcing a smile. "Tell them." He didn't move. "Tell them it isn't true." Still, he said nothing. Her smile faded. "You know me." His lips parted slightly, but no words came out. The silence hurt more than any accusation. The High Priest cleared his throat. "My Alpha..." Without taking his eyes off Lyra, Kael handed the scroll to the elder. The old priest adjusted his spectacles and began reading aloud. "'To the Rogue King... the castle gates will remain unguarded during the Moon Blessing Ceremony. Strike before midnight, and Blackthorn will fall before sunrise. Alpha Kael must not survive.'" Gasps erupted from every corner of the courtyard. The priest continued reading. "'As promised, the future Luna has ensured no one will suspect the attack until it is too late.'" The elder stopped. His trembling hands lowered the parchment. "No..." Lyra shook her head violently. "No! I never wrote that!" She rushed toward the priest, snatching the scroll from his hands. Her eyes raced across the ink. Every word was a lie. The handwriting resembled hers, but something about it felt wrong. The strokes were too stiff, too careful, as though someone had spent weeks practicing an imitation. "This is forged!" she cried. "Look closely! I didn't write this!" Several nobles exchanged uncertain glances. Others weren't convinced. "The Ashwood seal is genuine." "How could someone steal it?" "Perhaps she's pretending." A sharp voice cut through the crowd. "I always thought she was too quiet." Another answered. "Maybe she wanted the throne." The whispers grew into accusations. Lyra felt as though the ground beneath her feet had begun to crumble. She turned desperately toward Kael. "Please..." Her voice broke. "You know my handwriting." He remained motionless. "You know I would never harm our people." Silence. She stepped closer. "Kael... look at me." Slowly, he did. For one brief heartbeat, she saw the man she loved. The boy who had rescued her in the forest. The young warrior who had promised to protect her forever. The Alpha who had kissed her forehead beneath the moon and sworn they would face every storm together. His eyes shimmered with conflict. "The northern watchtower has fallen!" Then another messenger's desperate cry echoed through the castle courtyard, silencing every whisper. Hundreds of eyes turned toward the bloodied warrior who staggered through the open gates. His armor was torn apart, and fresh wounds covered his arms and face. Blood dripped from the edge of his sword, leaving crimson stains across the white stone floor. He collapsed onto one knee before Kael. "My Alpha..." he gasped, struggling to catch his breath. "The northern border has been breached." A murmur of panic swept through the crowd. Kael stepped forward immediately. "Report." "The rogues attacked without warning. Captain Rowan and his men are holding them back, but..." The messenger lowered his head. "...we've already lost more than thirty warriors." The courtyard erupted into chaos. "Thirty?" "How did the rogues get through our defenses?" "The border has never fallen!" "They knew exactly where to attack..." The last sentence spread like poison. They knew exactly where to attack. Slowly... Every face turned toward Lyra. She felt their stares like knives digging into her skin. "No..." she whispered. "I didn't do this." Captain Darius stepped beside Kael. "My Alpha, the letter warned that the northern defenses would be weakest tonight." Kael remained silent. Darius continued, his voice steady. "And now the attack has happened exactly as the letter predicted." The coincidence was devastating. Lyra looked desperately at Kael. "You can't believe this." He still said nothing. Her heart cracked a little more. The High Priest stepped forward, raising both hands. "Everyone remain calm! We must not allow fear to cloud our judgment." His words did little to settle the crowd. Some nobles began gathering their families. Mothers clutched frightened children against their chests. Warriors reached for the swords at their waists. Celebration had turned into fear within minutes. Lyra couldn't breathe. Only moments ago, these same people had cheered as she walked toward the Moon Altar. Now they looked at her as though she were a monster. She searched the crowd for familiar faces. Her father stood near the elders, his shoulders heavy with disbelief. Her mother looked pale, tears streaming silently down her cheeks. Neither of them spoke. Neither knew what to believe. "Lyra." Kael's deep voice finally broke the silence between them. She looked up immediately. Hope flickered inside her chest. "Tell me the truth." The words struck harder than any slap. She stared at him. "The truth?" He nodded slowly. "Is there anything you haven't told me?" Tears blurred her vision. "You think I'm hiding something?" "I need to hear your answer." Lyra took several steps toward him until only a few feet separated them. For years, this man had been her safest place. The one person she never imagined would doubt her. She looked straight into his silver eyes. "I have never betrayed you." Her voice trembled, but every word rang with conviction. "I have never betrayed this kingdom." She placed a hand over her heart. "I swear on the Moon Goddess herself." Silence followed. The sacred oath carried great weight among werewolves. Breaking such an oath invited the Moon Goddess's curse. Several elders exchanged uncertain glances. One of them whispered, "Would a guilty woman dare make that vow?" Captain Darius frowned. "Words alone prove nothing." Before anyone could respond, another guard hurried toward the altar. "My Alpha!" Kael turned. "What now?" The guard bowed. "Our soldiers have captured one of the rogue scouts alive." A ripple of surprise passed through the crowd. "Bring him here," Kael ordered. Minutes later, two warriors dragged a battered rogue into the courtyard. His clothes were torn, his wrists bound with silver chains. Despite his injuries, a cruel smile rested on his lips. He looked around lazily before his gaze settled on Lyra. "There she is." The crowd gasped. Lyra frowned. "I've never seen you before." The rogue laughed. "Really?" His mocking tone echoed across the courtyard. "I expected a warmer greeting from the woman who promised us victory." "I don't know you!" The rogue tilted his head. "Interesting." Captain Darius stepped closer. "Answer carefully." The rogue shrugged. "What more is there to say? She delivered the castle plans exactly as promised." "I DIDN'T!" Lyra shouted. The rogue ignored her. "Our king will be pleased to know everything is going according to plan." Without warning... He bit down hard. Blood spilled from the corner of his mouth. An elder cried out. "Stop him!" Too late. The rogue collapsed onto the stone floor, convulsing violently. Foam gathered at his lips. Within seconds... He was dead. The courtyard fell into stunned silence. Captain Darius knelt beside the body. "He bit into a poison capsule hidden inside his tooth." One of the visiting Alphas muttered darkly, "A dead witness can no longer be questioned." The timing couldn't have been worse. Every piece of evidence seemed to point toward Lyra. She felt trapped inside a nightmare she couldn't wake from. Kael stared at the rogue's lifeless body. Then at Lyra. Pain flashed across his face. It lasted only a heartbeat. Then duty replaced it. "Lyra Ashwood," his deep voice rang across the courtyard. "You are accused of conspiring with rogue wolves to assassinate the Alpha King." Then he order the guards to take her away, then a cold silver cuffs closed around them... The sacred moonstone necklace around Lyra's neck suddenly glowed with a brilliant silver light. Everyone froze. The ancient necklace had never reacted like this before. A powerful gust of wind swept across the courtyard. The torches flickered wildly. Above them... The full moon turned a deep crimson. An elder gasped in horror. "The Blood Moon..." The High Priest's face lost all color. "No..." His voice shook. "It cannot be..."
