Your My Mate

1012 Words
The next day I walked into the dinning room. He is alone sitting at the head of our main table. It is a very long wooden table with a dark navy blue table runner. There are navy blue placemats and gold decorative plates at each empty seat. There are multiple vases with white roses that sit in the center. There are two more smaller tables on each side of the larger one. This room can fit a lot of people. Caiden is currently drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. I have thought about what to say to him all night. I stood in front of my bathroom mirror and rehearsed different scenarios. At this point I am on two nights of no sleep. I feel exhausted. I need to figure out what he is doing. If he plans to reject me than he should make it fast. It is better to get it over with. I was about to walk up to him when his Beta Remy and Remy's little brother Casper walked in. Casper looks up and smiles at me. He has a kind heart and always smiles at everyone. He is the type of man who can brighten your day without trying to. Casper is a year younger than me but his eyes always display so much wisdom. Both of the brothers look almost identical. They are both light blondes with baby blue eyes. They are just slightly shorter than Caiden. Very well built and very handsome men. I turned around to walk out of the room when I saw Clara staring at me. She tries her best to stomp over. It took everything in me not to laugh at her wobbled march. She grabbed me by the arm and dragged me out of the room. I am pulled into a hallway before being slapped across the face. I fall to the ground holding my cheek. Although I have the senses of a wolf I have absolutely none of the strength. So any hit from a werewolf feels awful. “Have you lost your damn mind? What were you doing standing around?” She kicks me hard in the stomach. I fall back and curl my body. “GET BACK TO WORK!” She spat out. With one last kick she turns and wobbles out. I lay here gasping for air for a few minutes. I get up ignoring the pain. I heal slowly so this sucks. I hate working with any injuries because they make me slower. Which means I will get home late. I move that out of my head. I need to talk to Caiden. I have to figure this out. Maybe I should reject him first. I mean I can. Has anyone ever rejected an Alpha before? I don't know if I have ever heard of it happening. I was right! I got home late by two hours and I am dead tired. I slowly ease into bed and fall asleep. It is far from a peaceful sleep. I toss and turn from the nightmares. The ones I have had since the attack that took my family. Normally I am used to it but it hurts to toss around. My ribs are bruised from Clara. I wake up early and just lay here staring at the ceiling. “Oh Annabelle….what are you going to do?” I softly whisper. I should look nicer today. If this goes badly, which it will, then I want to at least look nice. So I get up and find my nice jeans with a black short sleeve dress shirt. I leave my hair down letting my dark brown curls fall naturally. This is as nice as it gets. I look once more in the mirror and stare into my blue eyes. “I can do this," I whispered. I nod to myself and walk out. The pack house felt so very far away. Each step felt like doomsday. I reach the pack house early so I start working. I keep checking to see where the Alpha is and if he is with anyone. Finally after lunch he is in his office alone. The nerves made me feel sick but I had to do this. I take a deep breath and knock on his office door. It was quiet for a few minutes before I heard him say “come in.” I quickly opened the door and stepped inside, closing the door on my way. I turned around to see his golden eyes staring me down. He just sat there. Not speaking a word. “Umm Alpha….I-I uh need to talk to you.” I stutter out. Silently kicking myself for my lack of courage. “Well…aren’t you speaking already?" he asked, raising one eyebrow. “Umm yes well…uh your kind of my mate.” I said. I look up and he is still staring at me. His expression is unreadable. It took a moment longer before he burst out laughing. I should be upset but I am so mesmerized by the heavenly sound of his laughter. He eventually stops and his Beta walks in. “What is going on?” Remy asked, looking between me and the Alpha. “Oh nothing. Annabelle here thinks I am her mate.” His Beta just had an odd look on his face. He studied me for a moment before he started to laugh as well. “My dear…if you were his mate, the Alpha would have already known years ago.” “Although this was amusing. I have work to do.” Caiden nods his head towards the door. “But I am serious. I am certain you are my mate. How can I know that and you don’t?” I cannot hide my confusion in my voice. Remy has a curious look in his eyes that vanishes quickly. Caiden just stares at me and nods again to the door. I take a deep breath and walk out.
