Chapter 4

DIANA’S POV I didn’t expect to find Cassian home when I arrived at the penthouse that afternoon. He’d said he’d be at the office all day, and I’d planned to spend the time alone, maybe take a long bath, try to pretend my life wasn’t falling apart. But when I walked through the door, he was there. Standing in the living room. Waiting. One look at his face and I knew something was wrong. “Cassian?” I set my purse down slowly. “What are you doing home? I thought you had meetings…..” “We need to talk.” His voice was ice. Cold and hard and nothing like the tentative warmth I’d heard this morning. My stomach dropped. “About what?” “About the truth.” He pulled out his phone, started scrolling. “About who you really are. What you’re really doing.” “I don’t understand…..” “Stop lying!” His voice cracked like a whip through the room. “Just stop. I know, Diana. I know about the financial transfers. I know about your history with wealthy men. I know about the accident.” My heart was pounding so hard I could barely breathe. “What are you talking about? What accident?” “My accident wasn’t an accident.” He showed me his phone…..messages from some unknown number, accusations and warnings that made my blood run cold. “Your family tried to kill me. This whole marriage is a setup to steal everything I have.” “That’s insane…..” “Is it?” He stepped closer, and I’d never seen him look at me with such hatred. Such disgust. “Marcus told me about your past. Your mother warned me about you. Even my own doctor is leaving me messages saying I can’t trust you. Everyone is trying to tell me the truth except you.” Tears were already burning in my eyes. “Cassian, please. Whatever they told you, it’s not…..” “The financial transfers, Diana. Explain them.” “I already did! Those are our joint accounts…..” “Convenient that they all happened right after I woke up from the coma. When I was too confused to question anything.” His laugh was bitter, broken. “You saw an opportunity and you took it. I was lying in a hospital bed and you were stealing from me.” “I would never…..” “Bullshit.” The word hit me like a slap. “I don’t believe in love. I never did. So whatever story you’re selling, whatever lie you’ve convinced yourself is true, I’m not buying it anymore.” Tears were streaming down my face now, hot and unstoppable. “You did believe in love. You believed in us. You told me…..on our wedding day, you told me I was the best thing that ever happened to you. That you’d rather lose everything than lose me.” “Then I was an idiot.” His expression was stone. “And now I’m awake. Now I see clearly.” “Fine.” I grabbed my purse, my hands shaking so hard I could barely hold it. “Believe whatever you want. Believe I’m some scheming gold-digger. Believe your precious Marcus and my toxic mother and those anonymous messages from god knows who. But when you finally remember…..when you finally wake up and realize what you’ve done…..don’t come crawling back to me.” “I won’t,” he said simply. That hurt worse than anything else. The certainty in his voice. The finality. I turned and walked toward the door, tears blurring my vision. I left the apartment, sobbing uncontrollably. At first I was walking then I was running to a place I didn’t even know of. …..…..…..- A few hours had passed as I sat at the park, my mind a whirlpool of thoughts. I was losing it. Just a few feet from me was a couple who were in hiking gears. They looked like they had just returned from a hiking trip. And then a distant memory of when I and Drew had gone hiking tigether last winter. The hiking trip, one of the best memories I had with him. Flashback 18+ We had been hiking in the mountains as a date a snow storm had began. Because of this, we got lost. The snowstorm was heavy and we were cold. That was until Cas had found a cave ahead. “Look Baby! A cave!” I had not been impressed, still sulking from the fact that we were lost. “Yeah. And after? Is the cave gonna show us the way?” “Come on Diana, we can always think of something. Let’s get to safety first.” And with that he slung me over his shoulder and carried me into the cage. We were there for a while, shivering, watching the snow pour relentlessly outside and then I turned my attention to Cassian. “What is it going to be, Cassian?” I asked. “We keep each other warm and nothing else”, he suggested and tried to affirm. I smirked. “Yes”. A brush of harsh and cold air rushed into the cave and through the spaces around the inflatable bed being used as a temporary door while I hurriedly got the fire going and Cassian immediately began to set up the spare inflatable sleeping bed. Within minutes he was done, and he stood back up stretched and then turned around to his jaw dropping and his breath ceasing momentarily. I had taken some of my clothes off because they were wet. My pants were dropped to my ankles and my bare buttocks was in view. “I can feel your eyes burning into me, Cassian”, I teased. I saw the bulge in his trouser. I knew his d**k had begun to rise underneath his pants too and he hurriedly jammed both hands atop it to keep it in place. I laughed, taking off my clothes. “Why are you acting so shy?” He said nothing. We had just started dating. We had kissed and done a few some s****l acts but not actual s*x so I could understand why he was so shy. It was kind of cute. “Take off your clothes and come into bed. We are cold and obviously wet”. Snow had melted into our clothes and had rendered any warmth from it close to useless. Cassian cast off his clothes, stood naked before my with his six-inch-long c**k staring me in the face.
