CHAPTER 27 Lary awakens face-down in the early dawn, still in her beach cover-up she had worn to dinner the night before. She rolls over, staring at a gecko stuck on the wall a foot from her head. She shouts, “I hate men!” The gecko scurries up the wall and out the window. By afternoon she is huddled in her deck chair at Loonie Tunies, sipping on a Bloody Mary. The spices feel good on her Velcro throat. Did I smoke cigarettes last night? Oh, who cares. She sits up for a moment to watch Dave with four women hanging onto his every word. Antonio and Federico, in brightly colored Speedos, chat to a waiter in Spanish. Becks is still missing in action some thirty hours later.
