Chapter Twelve: The Fall Beneath Everything 🌑🔥

474 Words
Daniel didn’t land. He fell. It wasn’t like falling from a height—it felt like dropping through layers of memory, like the world itself was peeling away around him. Voices faded. Lights broke apart. And then— Silence. When his feet finally hit something solid, it wasn’t ground. It was glass. A huge glass floor stretching endlessly in every direction, glowing faintly beneath his feet like a frozen ocean. Daniel stumbled back instantly. “What… is this place?” No answer came. Only his reflection staring back at him. But something was wrong. His reflection didn’t copy him perfectly. It was a second too slow. Then it smiled when he didn’t. Daniel froze. “No… no no no…” The reflection raised its hand. And tapped the glass from the other side. Knock. The entire floor trembled. A c***k spread slowly under Daniel’s feet. He backed away quickly—but every step made more cracks appear. Like the floor was reacting to him. “Stop!” he shouted. The reflection tilted its head. And whispered— “You broke the seal.” Suddenly, images exploded around him. Not memories this time. Recordings. Floating in the air like shattered screens. Elena screaming in a white room. His father signing documents covered in blood-red stamps. A younger Daniel strapped to a chair while machines circled his head. Daniel staggered back. “This isn’t real…” But one screen flickered closer than the rest. And he saw it clearly. A file. PROJECT REYES // SUBJECT: ELENA (SPLIT DESIGN) His breath stopped. Another file appeared beside it. PROJECT HOST // SUBJECT: DANIEL CARTER Daniel shook violently. “No… I’m not part of this…” The reflection below him pressed its hand harder against the glass. And cracks spread faster. “You are the center,” it whispered. A loud alarm echoed from nowhere. The space around him began collapsing inward. Like the entire memory system was breaking apart. And then— A voice he knew too well echoed through everything. Elena. “Daniel! Listen to me!” Her voice wasn’t coming from one place. It was everywhere. “Don’t let them complete the merge!” Daniel looked around wildly. “Elena?! Where are you?!” The reflection below him laughed softly. “She’s not where you think she is.” The glass floor suddenly turned transparent. And Daniel saw something underneath. A chamber. Elena was inside it. Trapped. Connected to machines. Her eyes open… staring directly at him. Daniel’s heart dropped. “ELENA!” She mouthed something silently. Then the system voice returned—calm, final, terrifying: MERGE SEQUENCE: 90% COMPLETE The reflection pressed its palm fully against the glass. And whispered one last time: “Choose now… or both versions disappear.” The glass finally shattered. And Daniel fell again— Straight into Elena’s scream. 🖤🔥
