Chapter Nine: The One Inside Her ⚡🖤

615 Words
Darkness swallowed everything. Not the kind where you can still sense shapes—this was deeper. Heavier. Like the air itself had been erased. Daniel couldn’t even hear his own breathing clearly anymore. Then— A whisper, right beside his ear. “Don’t trust her voice.” Daniel spun around wildly. “Elena?!” Silence. Then another voice answered—from the opposite direction. “I’m here.” Two voices. Same tone. Same sound. But coming from different places. Daniel’s heart slammed against his ribs. “Stop this!” A sudden light flickered above. Just once. Enough for him to see. Elena was standing exactly where she was before. But now… There was another Elena behind her. Same face. Same clothes. Same expression. Except her eyes. One had fear. The other had nothing at all. The masked figure at the bottom of the stairs stepped back slowly, like even it didn’t want to get close anymore. His father raised his weapon. “Daniel, don’t look at the second one.” Daniel turned sharply. “WHAT second one?!” But it was too late. The “second Elena” smiled. And the sound that came from her voice wasn’t human anymore. “She finally woke me up.” Elena—the first one—staggered back like she’d been hit. “No… I didn’t… I didn’t mean to—” The second Elena tilted her head. “You always mean to.” Daniel stepped backward. “What is happening to you?!” Elena’s hands trembled violently. “I told you… I don’t control everything.” The masked figure suddenly spoke again, voice distorted but urgent: “CONTAINMENT FAILURE. SUBJECT SPLIT COMPLETE.” His father’s face turned pale. “It’s worse than I thought…” Daniel snapped. “Stop talking in riddles and TELL ME!” The second Elena took one step forward. The air changed instantly. Colder. Heavier. Like something unseen had entered the room. “I am what she buried,” the second Elena said softly. “The part she refused to become.” Elena shook her head violently. “No… you’re not real…” The second one smiled wider. “Oh, I’m very real.” Suddenly— The walls of the basement lit up with flashing red lines. Like alarms hidden inside the structure itself had awakened. SIREN… SIREN… SIREN… The masked figure backed away. “They’re coming.” Daniel turned. “WHO is coming?!” His father grabbed Daniel’s arm hard. “The people who built her.” Daniel froze. “Built her?!” Elena collapsed to her knees, clutching her head. “Stop… stop talking…” The second Elena crouched slightly, whispering: “You think you met me by accident?” Daniel’s chest tightened. “You think I walked into your school randomly?” The basement door above them suddenly started shaking violently. Something—or many things—were trying to break in. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. The second Elena looked directly at Daniel now. “And you think your father is telling you the whole truth?” His father shouted, “DON’T LISTEN TO IT!” But Daniel couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. Because the second Elena stepped closer and whispered the final words that shattered everything he believed: “You weren’t supposed to meet her.” She pointed at the original Elena on the floor. “YOU were supposed to meet me first.” A final explosion ripped through the basement door— And the entire system went dark again. But before the blackness fully swallowed them… Daniel heard something terrifying. Multiple footsteps entering. And one voice from the corridor above saying calmly: “Subject Daniel is now active.” 🩸
