A week of tears , planning for the funeral and unwanted comment for far away family members has went by and it was one of the hardest weeks of her life. She sighed as she tried not to cry. She put on her lipstick she took a step back and studied herself in the mirror. She looked like a tired piece of cloth . She took in a big breath in and out. She turned around and looked at the black dress waiting for her. She hated black. She always felt dead in it. She got a fright when she heard the familiar knock on the door she turned around and there he was. Jason stood there looking so handsome in his black suit . She looked at him and smiled. " You ready to go? " he asked while smiling back at her. " Almost , can you just help zip me up please." He walked over to her and gently zipped her dress up he rubbed her shoulders and she turned her around . She smiled and took his hand. She looked up at him and said " Let's go."
When they got outside it was rainy. He took out his umbrella he had in his hand the whole time . He took her hand and they walked towards the car. It rained even harder as they got closer to the car. He gave her the umbrella and ran to the car to open the door for her. She got in the car and put her seatbelt on. When they started driving visions of how she imagined how her parents had there crash. Jason saw she was starting to get nervous so he took her hand and held it the entire way. The silence between them was alarming but Jason knew she wanted to be left alone with her thoughts , and today was a big day for her. It was the last time she could say goodbye to her parents. He knew she was never close with her parents and maybe that's why she never introduced him to her. He felt kind of strange going to her parents funeral when he never knew them. But he needed to be there for her. He felt like he knew them from all the stories she told from her childhood , before her brother passed. But still he never knew them. Sometimes he wondered if she ever told them about her.
As they continued driving and Jason went faster Emily held on to his hand tighter. He put on some music to distract her . Emily looked out the window at the corn crops flying past the car . It reminded her of the night Jason died. The corn crops cutting her skin as she ran past them . The dead leaves crunching underneath her feat. She remembered the feeling of the moonlight on her face. Then she had the overwhelming feeling of fear. She remembered the feeling she felt as a little girl staring at the big barn doors, that hovered over her . She saw the scarecrow in her head that she forgot about for years , but now suddenly like the strike of lightning it was back in her head. For years she had nightmares about it , the barn and her brothers lifeless body laying there on the ground . She wanted to tell Jason to stop and just turn around and head back to campus . She wanted him to turn around and never go back there . She hated the town. She hated the farm. It was a four hour drive and with each passing second she was fighting the urge to tell him to turn around.
When they stopped at the church , Jason was nervous , he went to open the door and already felt all the eyes on them , and when Emily got out of the car it became even worse. It was impossible not to notice the stares and under breath comments. Emily took a big breath in and Jason immediately saw she was nervous so he took her hand and held it the whole time. Holding his hand she built up enough courage to pick her head up and walk in.
The funeral was a series of never ending questions . " What are you going to do with the farm ? Where are you in life? How were you're parents before the crash? Do you plan on selling? " Every time she felt like screaming at the top of her lungs he was there , holding her hand and calming her down. Thankfully the funeral was over and she could go back to the dorms. She didn't have enough strength to go back to the farm and see all of her parents stuff there. Today was hard enough as it was . On the way home Jason was able to make her laugh so hard her tummy hurt with his awful singing.
When they got to campus it was still pouring . He stopped about 3 blocks from her dorm and Emily was really confused. " Is this the part were you kill me and hid my body ?" she asked jokingly . He looked at her with a smirk on his face . " Oh my dear Emily Rose , you won't get rid of me that easily " they both looked at each other trying hard to look serious but then burst into laughter. " Okay but seriously what are we doing here " she asked. " Curiosity killed the cat " He answered . She thought about it for a moment and then said " Curiosity is the most important thing one could own ." she knew she won and started to laugh . " Touche " He said. He put on the head lights to the max and turned up the music to its loudest. He climbed out of the car leaving his door open so they can still hear the music. He ran to the other side of the car and before she could say anything lifted her up and through her over his shoulders . He carried her to the front of the car where the lights was shining and started to dance with her.
She just went with it because for the first time in two weeks she felt happy. The rain was running down there clothes like streams running down mountains after a flood.
The saying " To dance the night away ' became more than just a saying.
