Chapter nine

1172 Words
The night was cold and the light breeze made the coldness of the night time sting even more. The stars were shining bright in the darkness of the farm . The bugs were flying around the porch light like it was the last source giving them life. Because of the light breeze the leaves of the corn field swayed with the wind. Drake woke up to a mosquito buzzing around his head searching for the perfect place to land on him. The waved his arms around in a attempt to chase it away. He sat up straight , but struggled to see due to him getting up to fast. He didn't want to go upstairs because Melissa was a very light sleeper and he was not in the mood to get one of her speeches on how she was going to leave him if he kept on drinking like that. He was getting pretty fed up with the constant reminder of his drinking problem , which was really not that bad he thought to himself. He stood up and stood still for a moment just to hold his balance. He looked around and saw the table they had set up earlier in the day. He stood at the top of the stairs swaying over it. He held on to the railing tightly to avoid falling. He put his left foot on the first step . Success he thought to himself. Only about seven or eight more to go. When he got at the bottom of the stairs he was very proud of himself. He started walking towards the table. He opened the one containers some one had forgot there. He opened it and ate the steak so fast he barely chewed through it. On the floor where Brandon sat he saw a small plastic packet. Jackpot . He thought to himself. He walked over and picked up a packet. m*******a . Drake has always wanted to try some of Brandon's drugs and now he had the perfect opportunity he thought to himself. He got it out of the bag and rolled it up for him to smoke. Melissa would freak if she saw him now. He felt as though he never had time for himself anymore. With school , Melissa and football , the time he once had for himself were now long gone .He knew Melissa meant well and she really loved him but sometimes it got to much for him . It felt as though they were married and that's not what he wanted. Marriage was also one of the things she talked about more than his drinking problem. She was acting like his wife and he never even proposed. He shook his head and asked himself why he would be with her for so long and being so unhappy in the relationship. In the beginning he was happy and she was so fun but now it's like he was trapped in the whole relationship. He opened the packet of m*******a and searched for the lighter in his pocket . He placed the joint between his lips and lit it. He felt the smoke burn it's way through his lungs. He loved the feeling and held it there for a while. He exhaled. He closed his eyes and could start to feel all of the cells in his body started feeling more and more alive. He stood up from the chair and looked around. Everything was spinning more than it was before. He looked up at the trees that were hanging over his head like a big cloud far up in the sky. Suddenly he heard a noise coming from far in the cornfields. He tried to see were the noise was coming from but couldn't see anything. It's probably Brandon playing tricks on him because he smoked his weed he thought to himself. Well he was not going to be the victim of his tricks Drake thought to himself. He was going to beat the s**t out of him , he thought to himself. He started walking over to the cornfield. When he got to the field at the down end of the hill , he walked besides the field searching for any sign of movement. Just as he was about to give up and go back to the house there was movement on his left side. "I got you asshole ." Drake said while trying to see straight. He pushed away the corn stalks in the front and started walking into it. He Heard the noise coming from about twenty meters in front of him and ran towards it. Then he heard the noise coming from the left. He turned and ran left. He stopped for a moment to see if he could hear it again. He heard it again and ran in the other direction. Then silence. All he could hear was the night breeze going through the corn stalk. He looked around and had no idea where he was. Then something was moving around him . It was fast . Faster than anything he has ever seen. He turned around searching for thing . He couldn't understand were it was coming from. His heart has never beaten this fast. He couldn't understand how anything could move this fast. He turned around and started running as fast as he could. The leaves cut his arm but he just kept on running. Finally he got to the big barn he had seen the previous day. He turned around and looked at the cornfield. He could feel something was watching him . He tried to catch his breath , when he finally did he felt a sharp pain in his leg. He looked down and all he could see was blood running down his leg. It was a big cut running down from his knee down to his foot. He sat down to take a look at it. It was way to deep to be one of the corn leaves that cut him. He took his flannel shirt he had on and wrapped it around the wound to prevent it from bleeding further. He struggled to stand up but finally stood up after a few tries. He looked over the cornfield and saw the house was very far away. He searched his pockets for his phone but it must have fell out in the cornfield himself he just imagined the thing running around him He obviously was still high on the weed but the fright and pain he just got made him sober up. He looked at the cornfield one last time , took a deep breath in and started walking in. He walked slowly so he didn't put to much persure on it. He was about fifty meters in when the noises started again. This time he didn't imagine it . It was real.. He stood up straight and took the stick in both hands. His eyes were opened wide and his heart was beating faster and faster.
