The day Emily and Katy found out they were going to the same collage was one of the best days of their lives. This meant that they both still had each other and the big scary moment of starting over wasn't so scary anymore because they had each other.
One sunny morning Emily was in a hurry to get to class. She was late yet again and she could see that it was getting on the professors nerves . But this time it was really not her fault. Katy had dragged her out the previous night even though Emily really tried to get out of it but Katy was not one of those people you can say no to . Katy was the most outgoing person Emily had ever met and she loved that she always included her when she went out . To be honest this is the most alive Emily has ever felt and it was all thanks to Katy. But with finals coming up Emily REALLY needed to start focusing on school and in order to that it meant no more distraction.
Suddenly the familiar sent of a local coffee stall came through the air . She stopped for a moment but then realized she would go from already late to absolutely late. As she continued walking the sun danced over her face . The crunchy fall leaves broke underneath her feet while the light breeze went through her long brown hair. Her foot got caught on a chipped piece of cement and she fell to the ground like a tall building tumbling from the bottom up. All her notes went flying on the ground as she hit the ground.
As she tried to get all of her notes before it flew away with the breeze she stopped and noticed a hand reaching out to her as a gesture to help her up. She laid her hand in the hand above her like a princess would do with a prince. The hand was much larger than hers and wrapped around her firmly. When she got up before her stood a boy . And not just any boy. Jason Young. Almost every girl on campus has had a crush on this boy. And Emily could understand why. His ocean blue eyes looked deep enough to drown in . He had this inviting personality that just made you want to stay forever. She snapped back to reality . I JUST SAID NO DISTACTIONS ! Emily thought to her self.
"Hey are you okay ?" he asked. His eyes looked for answers in hers. "Yeah , I'm fine , thanks for that by the way. " Looked like you needed a hand " Jason replied jokingly " I'm Jason , and you are ?" . " he continued asking . " Emily." She answered with a smile.
He insisted on walking her to class just to make sure she got there okay , but it was really just an excuse to talk to her more. Jason was intrigued by her , not only by her beauty but she was one of the few people who acted normal around him. He was a phycology student so he was really good at reading people but there was just something about her that seemed like so much more. He just had to get to know her better.
When they got to Emily's class he saw this as his opportunity to ask her out for coffee. He didn't want to ask her on a proper date because he didn't want her to think he was one of those guys who just want to have s*x with her and leave. He struggled to keep his excitement in check when she agreed but played it cool. For the rest of the morning nothing could wipe the smile of his face . It was strange he has been on many dates but he has never been this excited to go on one.
After class Emily rushed back to the dorm as fast as she could. She texted Katy to meet her there and said it was an emergency . When Emily got to the dorm Katy had already thrown half of their clothes on the bed in search of the perfect outfit for their date. "We have nothing to wear !" Katy said. " I'm sure WE will find something " Emily said bursting into laughter . Katy looked at her for a moment with a serious face but then started laughing with her. After about 20 minutes and about 18 outfit changes they finally got the perfect outfit.
The date went perfect and after that Emily and Jason were inseparable. They went to every party together . They studied together , walked to class together and Jason even got Katy to like him , which did not happen very often. Emily felt so safe with him she even told him about her brothers death and how that changed her entire life. She had never felt so close to anyone . He helped her deal with all the emotions she had suppressed for all those years. She started healing her heart and soul. She started to feel again.
One sunny afternoon Emily was on her way to class . The summer was almost there and it was Emily's favorite time of year. Winter and fall only reminded her of death and sadness. Emily has a big test which she was really nervous about so she decided to walk earlier just to put her mind at ease and get some fresh air. She loved this part of the campus under the oak trees. A part of it reminded her of home , the home before Johnny died , her home. Since she started talking about her trauma it has got much easier for her to think about her brother. Instead of hating her brother because he left her and hating her self even more because it wasn't her she started living for the both of them. She wanted to live a life Johnny would be proud of.
Suddenly a familiar touch disturbed her peaceful thinking. He stood behind her stroking her hair gently. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the moment. His hand slid down with her spin as he grabbed her waist and turned her around. Her arms wrapped around his neck. She smiled at him as she got lost in his eyes. He pulled her closer to him . She felt at home in his arms. " I thought I'd get you here , I just wanted to say good luck with the test. " he said just before he kissed her gently on the forehead. " Thank you , I needed that ." she said slowly taking her arms down from his neck. There hands met each other while they continued looking into each others eyes. She didn't want this moment to end but knew she had to go to class . She stood on her toes and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek. She looked at him one last time and walked way.
When she got to class her sunny afternoon turned into a rainy cloudy grey afternoon. She hated tests. Not because she didn't do well in them , in fact she actually did really good in everything and all her grades were far above average , she just hated the way it made her feel so vulnerable, so open to others judgement and the possibility of failure. As soon as she was handed the test she took one deep breath in and the words started flowing out of her. The time went by so fast and with each passing minute she felt more and more relieved . She walked out of the classroom and it felt like the world has been lifted off her shoulders not only because of the test but because of everything. For the first time is forever everything felt healed , normal , easy and she felt happy with her life.
As she was about to tell Katy how the test went when she got to the dorm her phone rang . Unknown number . Emily answered the phone while still smiling at Katy so excited to tell her about the test. The person at the other end of the line had just stopped talking when the whole world stopped . The phone dropped to the ground like a rock in water. Emily's whole body went in shock as she fell to the flour in tears. She tried to control it but the screams and tears came out uncontrollably . The only time she has ever felt this pain is when she found her brothers body.
