“You’re f*cking kidding me! You’re leaving me to be with your mate?” I was furious. Alpha promised she loved me. She was going to reject him! What the hell made her change her mind?

Edgar’s words ran through my head, but I pushed them away. There was no way she would choose Xavier over me. What we had was special. We’ve been together for two years now. Why would she throw that all away?

Xavier was a prick. He was rude and arrogant. I don’t see any reason why she would want to be with him.

“I am not leaving you for him,” she affirmed. “It’s an order from King Edward himself. I can’t go against the King’s word. You know that.”

“What if you fall for him? What does that mean for you and me?” My eyes started to water. I pushed them away, trying to reign in my emotions.

“Baby.” Alpha grabbed my hands. “Look at me.”

I kept my head down. I didn’t want her to see me cry. I could feel my heart aching. How could I possibly compete with her destined mate?

She placed a hand on each side of my jaw and gently raised my chin till we were eye-to-eye. “Tallia, you have been at my side for the last two years. You’re not just my lover, but my best friend. I love you more than anything. I will never let something as silly as this come between us.”

Alpha lowered her lips onto mine and gently kissed me. I deepened the kiss, and all of my restrained emotions broke free. I could feel the tears falling down my cheeks. I pulled her closer, clinging to her with everything I had. I put everything I felt into that kiss. I needed to show her how much I cared for her. She was the only one that I’ve ever loved. The only person who saw me for the real me. I couldn’t lose her.

Alpha returned my kiss with the same amount of passion I gave her. We stayed like that, holding each other close like it was the last time that we would see each other.
