A small section of the highway lay visible beyond, what should have been desolate at this time of night. Instead, three, four, five vehicles zoomed passed, well above the speed limit, all heading south toward the base of the island and most likely Route 95. They caught up to Marty five hundred feet short of the intersection and quickly regretted not bringing the car. When Cliff grabbed Marty's arm the younger man immediately wrenched it free. He said nothing and did not even acknowledge Cliff's presence. April reached him next and she too felt her hand thrown off with insistent if not violent force.
