“Oh, shoot,” Mel said, “I forgot.” He returned to his truck and brought back an old pair of binoculars. “We’ll be able to see better with these.” Not too long after, the shiny globes appeared, then we realized the sky was full of them, stretching up beyond the clouds, crushing all doubt that the end of the world had finally arrived. Suddenly, narrow lime green beams came into view – then the bugs, thousands of them, like a hoard of army ants. “We have about two hours before they get here,” Mel said. “I think I’m gonna stay at Jack’s place.
