The office was quiet on Monday. Kyra wasn’t entirely sure what to make of it. She didn’t expect it after the previous week when everyone was there almost every day.
Slade told her a bunch of the others were on an assignment. Something to do with the missing woman case that came in the week. Kyra wasn’t sure if she could ask questions, but Slade answered them anyway.
“They think they found her. There’s a commune not too far from here that brings in women for the men who live there. Some are there by choice, or at least that’s what they’ve said. The ones who don’t appear to be… it’s not an easy place to go. Without someone willing to press charges or testify, they go free.”
“I didn’t even know places like that existed.”
Slade nodded. “The world is pretty ugly. It’s sad.”
