CHAPTER 4: the past 4

520 Words
The next morning, Meg went about her routine, cooking and cleaning the house. As she worked, her mind wandered to Alex and their conversation the day before. She felt grateful for his understanding and support. ‎As she finished up the chores, her phone buzzed with a call from Alex. "Hey, love," he said, his voice warm and gentle. ‎Meg’s heart skipped a beat. She had been looking forward to His call. ‎"Hi Alex" she said, trying to sound casual. “How are you doing today, beauty?” he said, flirting with her. “Hah beauty, do you know who you're talking to?” Meg replied in an unserious manner, but her heart fluttered. She is someone who had a lot of insecurities as a human and a first daughter, so she has always learned to be independent. “Of course, I’m talking to Maggie, a girl I admire”, Alex replied. “Lol, you’re indirectly looking down on me”, Meg said jokingly. “For real, I am not. Stop looking down on yourself. "You are unique in your own way”, Alex said, sounding serious. They chatted for a bit, discussing plans and details for their future meeting because they were from two different states in the same country, and it was like 60 kilometers away. Then, Alex's voice turned serious. "I wanted to ask you something. You've seemed a bit...guarded around me, even when we're talking. Is everything okay? You can trust me, you know." ‎She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of vulnerability. "It's just...my past," she said, hesitating. "Actually, I’m a very introverted person. I don’t trust people easily. Before you chatted with me on f*******:, I was in a really dark place. I was depressed, and I didn't know how to connect with people and, as a firstborn, I had to grow up and think maturely at a very young age in other to protect myself and my siblings when my parents were not home, so I don’t know what it feels like to be dependent on someone." ‎Alex's tone was gentle. "I'm here for you. You don't have to go through anything alone again." ‎So she brought down her guard and opened up about her struggles with depression and how it had made her more introverted than she was. She shared with him how hard it was for her to trust people and form connections. As they talked, she felt a weight lifting off her shoulders. Alex listened attentively, offering words of comfort and understanding. "You're the strongest girl I have ever, and you're not alone," he said. "I'm here to support you." At that moment, she felt seen and heard. Alex’s words brought her a sense of peace, and she knew that she could trust him. "Thank you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. ‎"Anytime, love," Alex replied. "I'm here for you, always." ‎As they hung up, she felt a sense of hope and connection. She looked forward to seeing where and how their relationship would go. ‎ ‎
