THE FINAL CURTAIN

Chapter Eight: The Final Curtain The courtroom was silent. Not the kind of silence that brings peace- -but the kind that suffocates. Leonardo sat stiffly at the front bench, his once-proud figure now a shade of itself. His Italian-cut suit didn't shine the way it used to. His eyes were hollow. His lips pressed together like a man holding in screams. Beside him: his lawyer. Behind him: no one. Not Mariana. Not Isabela. Not even Valeria. Because today, he was finally alone. --- Earlier That Morning... Mariana stood before a mirror, adjusting the soft ivory gown that hugged her figure. Her belly was already beginning to curve. A new life. A new beginning. She wasn't going to hide anymore. Not her child. Not her truth. Not her power. And today, she wasn't just attending a hearing. She was walking into a rebirth. The day before, Isabela had called her. Strange, since they had never spoken directly. > "Meet me at the court tomorrow," she said calmly. "It's time to end this." Mariana hesitated. But something in Isabela's voice-like steel dipped in velvet-made her agree. She didn't know Isabela knew everything. Not the pregnancy. Not her role in Leonardo's fall. But Isabela always knew more than she said. --- The Fall of the Empire... As the court session began, reporters swarmed the steps. Cameras flashed. News tickers ran wild: > "LEONARDO LEONARDO, CEO OF THE LEONARDO GROUP, OFFICIALLY DIVORCED." "NEW DOCUMENTS REVEAL MASSIVE BUSINESS DEBT AND INTERNAL BETRAYAL." "LEONARDO'S WIFE, ISABELA, TAKES FULL OWNERSHIP OF FAMILY EMPIRE." "SHOCKING CONFESSION: THEIR DAUGHTER, VALERIA, WAS ADOPTED YEARS AGO." Inside, it was bloodless slaughter. Isabela didn't yell. She didn't cry. She simply laid out the receipts. Financial records. Legal evidence. Testimonies from board members Leonardo had betrayed. Whispers Mariana had dropped carefully in the right ears. It was a silent symphony of destruction- and Leonardo was the final note. --- Leonardo's Downfall... "Mr. Leonardo," one of the judges said sternly, "given the overwhelming evidence of mismanagement, personal misconduct, and breach of trust, this court rules in favor of the plaintiff, Mrs. Isabela Leonardo. The divorce is granted, and full rights to the Leonardo Group and its assets are awarded to her." He didn't flinch. But inside, the walls of his pride collapsed like an abandoned temple. Outside, the gossip was thunderous: > "Isn't that Leonardo?" "The one who cheated on his wife?" "I heard his mistress is pregnant." "And the company's in debt-hundreds of millions." "Shame. He used to be untouchable." "Isabela carried that company from the ground up!" --- Backstage, After the Trial... Leonardo ran into Mariana in the hallway. She looked radiant. Not smug. Not vengeful. Peaceful. That made it worse. "You planned this," he hissed. "You and Isabela." "I didn't know she knew everything," Mariana replied, holding her growing belly. "But I knew enough to stop letting you control me." He stepped closer. "And the baby? You're really going to do this?" "Yes," she said with calm fire. "And I'll raise this child with pride. Without the lies. Without the weight of your name." He blinked, stunned at her resolve. "Leonardo," she added, "your name used to be a legacy. Now, it's just a lesson." --- One Month Later... The Leonardo Group was split-and bleeding. Half the empire had been swallowed by debts and frozen partnerships. Isabela walked away, head high, reputation untarnished. She rebranded. Rebuilt. Renamed the company Valeria & Co., in honor of the daughter who gave her strength. Mariana moved into a new apartment, quiet and safe. She received anonymous deposits monthly. She knew it was Isabela. A silent nod of respect between two women who had been tangled in the same man's lies- but rose, each on their own terms. --- Epilogue... On a rainy evening in Bogotá, Leonardo sat in a bar, unshaven and slouched. The TV above him played the news: > "CEO Mariana Abagram delivers keynote speech on empowering women in business and motherhood." He watched her on screen. Strong. Beautiful. Unreachable. A bartender leaned over. "Hey, aren't you...?" Leonardo tossed a few pesos on the table and walked out. The fire beneath the earth had erupted. And now, only ashes remained...
