Episode 4: The cure

Frank's POV: Dad left with Gorz to his shrine to confirm his words. Alice and I were in the room with mum. My chest was pumping. Everything that Gorz said was so hard to swallow. I needed to talk to someone about it. I signalled Alice and asked her to come outside the room with me for a conversation. She obliged. We didn't stop outside the door of the room. We walked to my room and stopped just outside the door. “What do you think about everything that Gorz said?” “Hmmm, brother, what is there to think? He has said what he said. I mean we trusted that he would have a solution to our problem and he did, albeit not what we were expecting.” “Alice! The fire ore! Something red, something pure, and whatnot? Going to the human world? Isn't that a big deal to you Alice?” “It is brother. But what can we do? It's either you do this or mother may never get up from that bed again and if she does, god forbid she does so as a corpse.” “That will never happen on my watch.” “I know. But I do wonder how Chenzi's pack got to know of our fortification against the fire ore. How? Did we underestimate those people?” “I don't think we underestimated them. Maybe, someone betrayed us. Someone amongst us sold us out.” “Ah ah, what are you saying, our Beta?! He doesn't even know of the Alpha's fortification against the ore. That's how secretive it is.” “Obviously, the Beta doesn't know. But think Alice, think? If I'm right and we were betrayed; and it is not you nor me nor mum nor even dad that sold us out, then who else do you think will?” Alice thought for a few minutes then with a surprised expression said; “Oh come on Frank. You don't think that he…” Frank nodded, showing his sister that he was thinking exactly what she was thinking. “How????!” Alice asked Frank, spreading her arms wide in curiosity and confusion. “I don't know Alice. I’m just thinking out loud.” “Why would he even do that? Betray his own family?” “Why did he repeatedly make attempts on my life during our childhood and now run away?” “Hmmm. We can't be sure yet brother. We can't be” “Well…” I was cut short because I felt something in my chest, in my mind, a message was coming in. Someone was mind-linking me. “Son, it is true. All Gorz said is true. You have to go to the human world to save your mother”, my father said to me through the mind link. I looked at my sister and sure enough, she had also received the message. I sighed heavily.
