Finally summoned the courage to get up from her bed, Layla went about her morning routine while feeling so drained from her brain. She really hopes she doesn’t mess up her first day at work. This is really huge for her but her mess is also really huge on her right now.
*soft knocks from the door*
“Layla are you up?”
“Yes mum, I’m getting prepared”
“Okay can I come in?”
“If you won’t give me pep talks that might make me late then you can”
*pushing the door open*
“Sometimes I wonder if this smart mouth of yours is really from me”
“Sometimes I’m curious why you haven’t dumped me”
“Sassy much”
“Love me regardless”
“Oh I wish I don’t”
Placing her hands on her shoulder and looking at her through the mirror
“I know today is going to be a great day”
“I believe so too”
“Now I packed your lunch for you already and also your breakfast is waiting for you. I wouldn’t want your stomach making those loud noises at work”
Giving the puppy eye “You are the best mum”
“I also left the keys on the table, I would be picking the other car up from the mechanic today”
“Thank you mum. I love you so much”
“You are welcome pretty pumpkin”
“I’d be with you shortly”
Applying the last touches to her hair and checking her outfit out in the mirror, she picked up her bag from the table and took a deep breath before she stepped out of her room. Met her mum, dishing her breakfast already. She passed her a cup of coffee and pushed her food to her. She quickly ate her food whilst checking the time so she wouldn’t be late and wouldn’t have to over-speed. Right now paying a fine shouldn’t be on her list.
“Layla slowdown”
*Mumbling with food in her mouth* “I’m almost done mum”
“Layla, this might sound horrible to you right now, but i need you to listen to Chancey. I know you are not expecting this kind of reaction from me this morning but i mean we all deserve a listening ear at some point in our lives”
“Mum are you being serious right now?”
Holding her hands “i know i do not have a say in this but you should try baby”
“Mum is there something you are not telling me? Is there something i should know because this is not the reaction i was expecting from you this morning”
“Layla just know i love you so much and everything happens for a reason”
“Loosing my energy and myself does not count as everything happens for a reason. Right now i am having a second thoughts about why i welcomed you back to my space”
Feeling shocked “Layla”
“No do not layla me, you either tell me what i do not know or move away from my life again” with that she picked up her bag and went to work.
Driving to the office, still having second thoughts since it wasn’t too late to back out of it all. Seeing the tall building from afar, she let out a deep breath and went ahead to park her car. She was about to step out of her car when she noticed Chancey going into the building and she decided to stay back a little. Picking up her pace, the security pushed the door open the moment he saw her.
“Good morning ma’am”
“Good morning, but please its Layla. Ma’am is for my mother’s age”
*The security smiled and let her in while handing her the company’s tag*
“Good morning Triss, I guess I’m late”
“No you’re not”
“The boss is here already”
“About that he is never late. Most of the time he gets to the office before me and today is a different day. There is a meeting today which is very important for him”
“Alright. Let me head up but I don’t know where I am going”
“Oh about that, the boss secretary called in sick and there is a need for replacement for this week.”
*eyes wide in shock*
“What?”
“You are the only one permitted to use his elevator seeing that you both work on the same flour”
“By the way I haven’t seen him stepped into the building”
“He probably used the back door”
“Oh s**t” she screamed while running for the elevator.
She was thinking of every possible excuse she could give. She knows she isn’t late but she was wishing she was in her position before he got there.
*Ding* the sound of the elevator brought her attention back.
