Chapter three

662 Words
The old railway has been abandoned for so many years. Most people avoided the place especially at night. Remorse has it that strange noises are always heard from the place at midnight. But that night someone was there. Daniel checked his time again it was 10:20pm. Daniel moved back and forth thinking if Amara would eventually come after everything Lydia had said to her. Daniel leaned on a pillar holding the roof of the station. Just as he was about to check the time again he heard footsteps approaching towards him, for a moment he saw nothing but shadow. Amara! You came he felt relieved. But you did, Daniel said with a smile. Amara stopped a few feet away from him. She looked at the broken windows and rusty tracks and said, This place is creepy. Daniel laughed quietly. That's why no one comes here. Neither of them said anything for a moment. It was strange that they weren't talking, but it wasn't awkward. It seems like they were both thinking the same thing. Finally, Amara spoke up. Why did you want me to meet you here? Daniel gave her a serious look. Because I believe something is wrong, Amara frowned, with what? With the story that our families keep telling us. Amara crossed her arms. You mean the fight? Daniel nodded. I've always heard that the Okafor family turned against my grandfather. My dad says they stole land that didn't belong to them and ruined our family's business. Amara's eyes widened my dad doesn't say that. Daniel looked shocked what do you mean? My dad says the Adebayo family let us down, Amara said. He says your grandfather cheated mine in a business deal and everything our family had worked for. The wind suddenly got stronger, Daniel looked at her. So both families think the other one started it? Amara nodded slowly. That's right. Daniel shook his head in disbelief. What if we find out exactly what happened Daniel asked, Amara stared at him. That will really cause a lot of problems she added. But it will also end the fight he responded. Before Amara could say anything, they heard a sound it was as if someone was stepping on dry leaves. They were both stunned. They stared into the darkness for some seconds but still didn't see or hear anything. Daniel moved forward slowly. He said hello but there was no response. But then, a faint beam of light flashed for a short time from behind one of the station buildings. Like turning a torch on and off. Amara took hold of Daniel's arm, there's someone here. Daniel's heart started to race. But no one ever came here at night, so who would be keeping an eye on them? Daniel walked slowly in the direction of the light but he couldn't move any further. All of a sudden, a voice came from the dark it was old and deep. "Young people should be careful when they look back at the past ". Daniel and Amara turned around. An old man with a lantern came out from behind a broken station door. He had a lot of wrinkles on his face, but his eyes were sharp and awake. He looked at them very closely and said, "I know who you are" Daniel frowned, what do you mean? The old man raised the lantern a little so that the light fell on. He said, You are Daniel Adebayo. After that, he looked at Amara and said you are Amara Okafor. They both stared at each other. There was something even more disturbing about the way he looked at them. Like someone who knew this would happen. The old man sighed, I knew your grandparents he said, I know the truth about what turned them into enemies. Amara suddenly felt a chill down her spine. It felt like they had stepped into something bigger than themselves and might be more dangerous than they
