Gaderian

The world dissolved into darkness, the scent of pine and fear were the last things I registered before oblivion claimed me. Then, I was back in the dream, the moonlight filtering through the fedora-wearing man's hat, casting long shadows on his face. "Don't worry," his voice, warm and reassuring, filled my ears. "I'll find you, my love." But before he could say anything else, a harsh shout shattered the dream. "Rachel! Rachel!" I bolted upright, gasping for breath. Disoriented, I squinted in the dim light filtering through the trees. Damon cradled me in his arms, his face etched with concern. "Are you alright?" Relief flooded me, warm and sweet. "Damon? What happened?" "Ischyros lost it," he said, his voice tight. "He accused you of being marked by another Alpha. He…" He trailed off, unable to finish the horrifying sentence. Through the trees, I saw a pack of werewolves emerge, their eyes gleaming red in the moonlight. Ischyros stood at their head, his face contorted in rage. He looked like a demon, a far cry from the Alpha I had seen earlier. "There you are!" Ischyros roared, his voice echoing through the woods. Damon placed me on my feet, his grip firm. "Run, Rachel. South. There's a giant castle on a hill. Knock on the door and tell them you're from me. They'll understand." Fear fueled my legs. I didn't understand what was happening, but the urgency in Damon's voice propelled me forward. I glanced back one last time. Damon stood his ground, facing the enraged Alpha and his pack. A desperate plea escaped my lips, "Damon!" But there was no time for goodbyes. With a choked sob, I turned and ran. The forest floor blurred beneath my feet, branches whipping at my face. My lungs burned, but I didn't dare stop. The angry growls of the pursuing wolves were my only motivation. Ahead, in the distance, a silhouette rose against the moonlit sky. It was the castle, a dark and imposing structure that seemed to beckon me forward. Hope, a fragile ember, flickered within me. Could this be my salvation? With a final burst of strength, I sprinted towards the castle, pounding on the heavy oak door. "Help! Please!" I screamed, my voice raw with exhaustion. "I'm from Damon! He sent me!" The silence behind the door stretched on, each passing second an eternity. But then, a creak echoed through the night, and a sliver of light peeked through the crack. My heart hammered against my ribs, a desperate prayer on my lips. This was it. My only chance. The heavy door groaned open, revealing a sliver of light and the silhouette of an elderly woman. Relief washed over me like a tidal wave. "Thank goodness," I gasped, stumbling forward. "They're after me, please, you have to help!" Before I could explain further, Ischyros' enraged voice boomed from behind me. "There you are, you lying mutt! You think this place can protect you?" The woman's gaze shifted from me to Ischyros, her face hardening. Her calm demeanor vanished, replaced by a steely glint in her eyes. "Ischyros Alpha," she addressed him coolly, her voice surprisingly steady, "this is Gaderian, a prestigious werewolf school. Our rules are clear – outsiders cannot harm members on school grounds." Ischyros bristled, his voice dripping with venom. "She's no member! She's a marked Luna, a traitor!" The woman held his gaze unwavering. "She is now," she countered, her voice devoid of fear. "You will leave, Ischyros. This is not your territory." A tense silence filled the air. My heart pounded a frantic rhythm against my ribs. Ischyros' anger seemed to crackle around him, an electric storm threatening to break. Then, a flicker of red – the woman's eyes. They glowed with an unsettling intensity, a chilling contrast to her calm demeanor. Ischyros flinched back, a spark of fear flickering in his gaze. "Don't even consider starting a war you can't win, Alpha," she warned, her voice low and dangerous. "Leave. Now." Ischyros let out a frustrated roar, but it lacked conviction. He glared at me one last time, a promise of revenge etched on his face. Then, with a growl, he turned and retreated towards the forest, his pack following close behind. The woman watched them go, her red eyes fading back to a warm brown. Relief flooded me, leaving me weak and shaky. She turned back to me, a gentle smile softening her features. "Welcome to Gaderian, Rachel," she said, her voice kind. "I'm Headmistress Vera. You're safe now." Tears welled up in my eyes, spilling over as I slumped against the door. Safe. Here, at this mysterious school, surrounded by wolves and an intimidating Headmistress with fiery eyes. Safe, but with a world of questions swirling in my mind. What exactly was Gaderian? And what was I truly safe from?
