Chapter Six Stacey dreamed she was back at her parents’ house. The lights were on and the TV was blaring the news. She stood in the kitchen. Everything was how she had left it the day her parents died. The fridge was covered with Allison’s drawings and Stacey’s tests demonstrating excellence. She looked down at herself. She was not a child, not any longer. She looked around the kitchen and then slowly moved toward the living room. It felt as if she was walking underwater. Her limbs weighed a thousand pounds each as she tried to move into the living room. When she finally stepped inside, the TV turned to static. The sudden noise made her wince. She walked over to mute it. Her parents would be furious if they knew she left all the lights on as well as the TV. What was she thinking? Stace
