Chapter 1 Unexpected help

869 Words
'Get up and run! Get on the first plane or boat and HIDE!' I kept repeating to myself. My head and heart were pounding, and my mind was spinning, but the pain whole body was slowing me down, but I had to keep pushing! Knowing there was a brighter day ahead, knowing the end to all the lies, deceit, beatings, and heartache were all coming to an end, gave me the drive to keep going. I really outdid myself, didn't know, poked the bear. I started the fight, but i didn't have to say all the crap I said, even if it was true. I just couldn't help myself. I was in the moment, and knowing I wouldn't be here when he came back was all the reason to say what I had to. I went to the closet and grabbed my backpack, I was able to hide a bag that I kept a few changes of clothes, some wigs, scissors, and some jewelry he had given me. I was also able to get fifteen hundred dollars in total, not to mention the 3 stacks of cash all in hundreds, I had just come across while getting my stuff out of the closet. I ran to the bathroom and used a cloth to wipe my face and clean it, so I looked decent, so no one who happened to see me would be worried and call the police alerting him. He owned the town, and everyone knew him and was scared to even walk in his path on the street. I was sick of it! I'm tired of it all. F**k the money, jewlery "lavish" lifestyle it could all go to h*ll just like him and all his people could! I made a mistake at sixteen, falling for someone like him, not listening to my parents, family, or closest friends when they tried to warn me about him. I was so naive and blind I told him everything everyone said and listened to all the excuses he told me and believed him when he said they didn't know him or not to believe them instead in his love for me. Yeah, some love, bruises, black eyes, marks, hand prints, and concussions that were his way to show me love. Though it wasn't always that way in the beginning. He made love to me my first time and on special nights. I still remember it all like yesterday. Perhaps that's why I kept a blind eye to everything. I held on to that, held on to the gentleman he once was. Strong, respectful, loving, and caring guy I fell for. Now, five years later, there was this SOB who would run down anyone in his way, hurt those who told him no, even k*lling them. I knew I could be next if he caught me.. again. The first time I ran I made the biggest mistake and confined in Stephen, thinking he could help me he had connections like Gabe and could easily set me up and help me, so I didn't have to resort into drastic measures. But he only wanted to use me for himself and even use me to get others on his side to go against Gabe, s*xually that is. I was better off with Gabe. I knew what to expect, so I took my chances. That's why I played it smart and told him what I was trying to do and suffered the consequences. I have been paying for them for the past 8 months. I bid my time, and now it's time to execute my escape plan. Once I finished getting cleaned and changed, I grabbed my bag and hoodie. I walked out of the room down the back stairs and down the hall, heading to the side door where there were no cameras. Knowing him and the men were all gone, as he is, every time we had "a fight." It was my plan to leave when he wasn't home. It gave me a head start, so to speak, I know he will come after me, but he wouldn't be back for another few hours. As soon as I turned the corner, I froze, and my blood did too. Starring at me was the head housekeeper, Margaret, and the two new kitchen staff members we hired. "Go and check the laundry, set up new towels in the master room and bathrooms, don't forget to clean the master suite, Miss Elara, would you care for some tea or a snack?" I couldn't speak. I just nodded my head but didn't move. If I did, they would see my backpack. I followed the two who ran off with my eyes, I still couldn't move. I was frozen in place, trying to figure out what to do. "Come dear, come sit while I make your cup," she stated casually. As she turned to the stove and immediately took a step back, prepared to run to the right out the back door. "Don't," she hissed, "Come this way instead," her face and tone were nothing sincere as she spoke. I couldn't move or speak, let alone believe I heard her correctly, she was helping me?!..if so, why?...
