The roof Hatchwater touched down on was in the middle of the slums. Alec looked at Kaisa. “You have nothing to worry about, Beyett. I have friends here who’ll help us out.”
“Obviously, it’s going to take you a bit of time to get to know me. I always worry.” He almost smiled. “Over thinking things is how I keep myself alive.”
“Maybe that’s what you do, but flexibility can be much more useful.” Their eyes met for a moment, and she grinned at him. “I’m good at flexible.”
Shaking his head, Alec picked up Weyer. “Let’s get moving. The sooner you get whatever you need off him the better it will be for both of us. I need to get him to the Network, so I can claim the bounty. Execs are always worthwhile, simply for the amount of money I can make, but they come up so rarely now…” He f
