Reaching the second-floor bedroom, Selena Patrick paused for a long while at the door before finally raising her hand to knock.
There was no response, so she took it as an invitation to enter and pushed the door open.
The man was leaning against the headboard, his eyes closed.
Selena Patrick deliberately coughed, hoping to let him know she had returned. But he didn't even flutter an eyelash.
"Jeffrey Maugham, I'm back," she said.
Still, there was no reaction from the man.
Thinking that perhaps her voice was too soft, she cleared her throat and raised her voice, "I'm back."
Yet, still, nothing.
