The celebration of a girl"s fifteenth birthday and her transition from childhood to adulthoodThe Mass was a thing of beauty. The church was decorated throughout with fresh flowers. It was packed with family and guests, dressed in their finest. Francisca wore the white gown her father had commissioned to be made in America. The long sleeved, white silk dress was exquisitely embroidered with small flowers made of fine red and green thread. The many petticoats beneath the gown made it flare so full that she appeared to float across the floor as she approached the altar. A white silk pillow was placed at the altar for her to kneel on as she received communion.
