The cloudless morning sky was a brilliant, bright blue. The excited voices of the guests drowned out the noise coming from the horses and cattle. The guests, gathered on a hill, were shaded by large trees. From this vantage point, they had an excellent view of the open field below. Vaqueros, dressed in their finest, strutted about like proud fighting c***s. Each man was sure he would win the coveted lariat. The boys, the sons of the vaqueros, mimicked their fathers. Each one was sure he would win a silver belt buckle or a set of silver spurs. A temporary corral now held fifty or more longhorns.
