The guests had left. The Indian servants were putting away the party decorations. The rancho was getting ready for a return to a normal workday. Hector stood at the window of his cottage, his left hand shading his eyes from the sunlight. His vision had returned to normal, but his eyes were sensitive to light, and he still had headaches. From his window, he saw Carlos walking across the yard. Moving away from the window, Hector went to the table in the room, pulled out a chair and sat down.
