On a hill overlooking the prison, Hector and Garcia stood by a freight wagon hitched to a four-horse team. Their mounts were tied to the back of the wagon. Garcia thought about how they were about to steal the gold shipment. Thanks to the commandant, both he and Hector had received pardons and were free men. They could ride away and start a new life, but the thought of the riches in the strong-room below was too strong. "I have always been a bandit," thought Garcia, "Why should I stop now?" Hector, unlike Garcia, never gave a thought to not stealing the gold. His plan, he thought was a good one. No one would ever suspect him.
