Broken Leg moved through the village. The smell of raw meat and blood from the buffalo kill was thick in the air. The camp dogs growled and fought over scraps thrown to them by the children. The women scraped the buffalo hides while others sliced meat into strips and hung them to dry in the sun. Suddenly the dogs stopped fighting and began barking and then began running. The warriors took up their weapons when they saw three men riding into camp. Several mounted their war-ponies and raced to meet the strangers. Crow held up his hand signaling Jed and LeRue to stop. They waited for the warriors to arrive. Crow stood in his stirrups so the braves could see him. The Crow warriors arrived in a cloud of dust, war-cries and barking dogs. One of the warriors held up his hand halting the others
