Who's the new Beta?

2507 Words
Shouldn't I be excited to be finally back home? My mother stood in front of me thunderstruck, you'd think she'd seen ghost. But thought I'd think she prefers me as such since she hates me so much. “ Alpha? What is she doing back here? " Veronica changes her gaze on the Alpha demanding answers. Well, my mom still hates me. A part of me really hoped she should would have changed a little. “ Since when do I answer to you Veronica?" Alpha Asher flares with madness in his eyes. “But... Does Kamila even know about this?" she scruples , shell shocked. “ Such a wonderful family reunion," I say pushing past them, least interested in the drama. “ Just can't wait to see how least happy my father will be," I continue. Inside the entrance hall I'm greeted by lush interior, heavy chandeliers hanging on the roof, black and white marbled floor, the grand staircase of course, and an angry female glaring at me. “Where do you think you're going?" She stands firm in front of me with her arms folded. How enticing. “ Let me guess? You should be one of Kamila's minions," I note, taking her from head to toe. She's beautiful though. Her chocolate brown straight hair, and angular jawline. Her perfectly built frame, with visible muscles. She huffs but before she can answer, Alpha Asher steps in. “ This is Angela. She's my Beta," Alpha Asher introduces. I wonder what else did I miss since I was gone. I'd thought Kamila was the Beta, but I'd almost be glad that this lady beat her on the tittle. “ Don't be fooled by the name. I'm no angel," she makes it known to me. As if I care that much. Alpha Asher clears his throat before he continues. “ And this is, Amber, Kamila's twin sister," he introduces me to the Beta. Even 'this my mate that I rejected and banished her from my pack' would sound better than be introduced as Kamila's twin sister. “ And I'm no Amber," I tell her, referring to her previous statement. “ This is Kamila's twin sister? She looks nothing like that Harridan," she claims. I think I may like this Angela woman after all. “ That Harridan, is my wife, and your Luna, “ he says. That came out more shocking than it should have. " At least you admit she's Harridan,” Angela responds rolling her eyes. " Wife and Luna? When were you planning to tell me about this, Mr. Alpha? “ I raise my eyebrow, questioning him. " I guess she was right after all. You too were made for each other, “ I note almost hard to deny that hearing that actually hurts me somehow. And here I thought I shouldn't even care. Or maybe this was his plan. To show me how much he doesn't want me. How much I'm useless to him. " I just didn't know how to tell you, “ he responds. I snort a actually surprised. " Is that so? You didn't seem not to know how to tell me I should leave your pack years ago, “ I remind him. " So you were chased out of the pack. This is interesting. Alpha Asher you never told me about this, “ Angela chimes in. " Because it's none of your business, “ he enforces with rage in his voice. " Well now that you brought her here. It's all my business. I'm the Beta of this pack,” Angela claims her title. " And I'm the Alpha, “ he reminds her. " Amber? “ I hear a deep gruff voice coming from behind. This should be interesting. " Ohh, would you look at that. If it isn't my loving father, “ I fake smile as I turn to look at him. He old withering image, livid as he stares at me. It was clear even to a fool that he didn't want me here. “Alpha. We heard that you were already ba… What is she doing here!?“ Miranda freezes in horror as her eyes meet mine. " Isn't everyone just so excited to see me,” I comment as everyone looks at me with questioning glares. Each angrier than the other. They completely make Angela look less angry. " You can't come here! You are not welcome here!“ Miranda claims moved by my presence. Where's Kamila anyway. I should like to see how excited she would be, to see me. " Please someone save me from this nightmare,” I mumble pinching the bridge of my nose. I earnestly just needed to disappear from here. “ I will. Only if you'll tell me all the details," Angela answers to my cries of help. “ I think it's worth the sacrifice," I respond and with that she loops her arm around mine, and leads me away. “ Alpha? Aren't you going to do anything about this?" Miranda shrieks threatened by my presence. But he ignores her, and just walks away. “ Remember Amber we are on a mission. This should be your chance to get some answers," I'm reminded by Stormi the main reason I'm here. It truly not to bond with my family. Angela leads me out of the house, and leads me to a garden of geometric art work. She allows us to get lost in the tall walls of maze before addressing me. “ Those people seem to hate you. And I also hate them. So that makes me very interested in you," she says, still her arm tangled in mine. “The full story," she instructs. I sigh and begin telling her my tale of how I was blamed with attempted murder my whole life. How it led to everyone hating me, and bullying me my entire life. And how me being wolfless lead to my rejection and banishment from the pack. But through my tale omitting the part that I don't have a wolf, because I can't really trust her about it. And that my grandma is actually dead, and I'm suspecting her Alpha. “That seems awful. Alpha Asher doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would do such an awful thing," she defends her Alpha. Of course I should expect her too, she's his freaking Beta. “ Well he did. And got married to my sister," I tell her. She sighs still processing the information I just told her. “ I don't approve any of it. But I'm sure he had a good reason," she continues. “I don't care about his reasons. The important thing is he threw me out in the time I might have needed me the most. He didn't care. If weren't for my granny, I don't know where I would be right now," I cry remembering that night I left the pack. Thinking what if granny was not around. Remembering all the help my grandma offered just to see me well. And how now she's dead. “ You and your granny must be really close," she notices. Well we were really close. “ Yes. She's the only person who actually believed in me," I reply, feeling my heart clench, fighting back angry tears. I shouldn't even talking about her in the past. She should be here with me, saving from the monsters. “ That explains why she came here all angry a few days back. And got into a heated argument with Alpha Asher," she gives very interesting details. So Alpha Asher could be our guy after all. “Really? What all about?" I'm truly shocked to be hearing all of this. And most curious, as this is another lead to my case. “ About them inviting her in their anniversary. She was really angry. Calling him a fool and a coward. With a stupid heart. Alpha Asher of course didn't like the challenge," she says, making me even more interested. “Wow," I could only say, going into a pause as I process the information. “ Well it seems our theories about him could be true after all. Why am I not surprised?" Stormi says also taking in the information from Angela. " But why is he being so nice?" I wonder, as his actions were opposite of his crimes. “ Maybe he just wants to see how much we know about this. He should suspect that we are on him already. Just can't directly question us about it," Stormi explains. “ But why don't he just kill us?" “ Granny dies after their argument, then also her grandchild? Obviously he's the first suspect, no one will believe it's a coincidence, only a fool. And I'm sure there are people who hate him so much, they would love to prove he did it. So maybe he's thinking about that," Stormi says. “But why can't he kill us. And make it look like we killed our granny, and took our own lives after. No one will really suspect a thing. They would just think I got angry about something, and killed her. And killed myself for what ever reason," the thought crosses my mind. " Interesting point Amber. Maybe this is all just a trap. He can't kill us in his suite because that's riskier, and the pack is also risky. Bet he's trying to find a way to lure us back to granny's farm, “ Stormi analyses the details, as given to us. And I thought of how it can actually be all true. " Well this just got more interesting, “ I tell Stormi. " Sorry about my silence. I'm just trying to process everything you know. It's been a long day,” I shift back to Angela who was also silent besides me as we stroll through the maize. " It's fine. I understand, “ she responds. " Anyways I'm curious. How did you become the Beta. Since my sister is the Luna, I'd expect her to give the title to one of her minions, “ my curiosity over takes me. And if she's so good at being the Beta, I should at least know about her. " Well it's not always about what Kamila wants. Before this, I didn't really have a pack. I was just an orphan, I lost my parents when I was very young.“ And my heart immediately breaks when I'm introduced to her story. " I'm very sorry to hear that, you don't have to... “ " No don't be. You've told me your sad story. I owe this much. So as I was saying. I don't even know my parents. I grew up like a normal human. I always saw I was different from the rest, smarter, stronger, with great hearing and strength. I could always sense things better than any human should. I didn't even have anyone to help me through my first shift, and it was so painful I thought I would die. But I believe someone should have been there for better reasons. Because I didn't even know I was a werewolf all along. I was so scared, so alone in a world I didn't understand. But mostly because on my first shift, I killed one of my friends from the orphanage, and I wasn't even aware of my action. But when morning came, and I was lying naked in the middle of the woods, with an animal in my head, I knew something was wrong, and it something that made me hate myself. I found my friend teared into peaces in the pool of her own blood, and I knew it was my fault. I killed her, in the worst way possible. When the police came, they concluded that it was just an animal attack. But deep inside I knew I was the animal, I was the real monster that took her life. And I also knew I couldn't continue living there, I shouldn't be living at all. I didn't want to hurt anyone anymore. Even when my wolf tried to comfort me, I tried to kill myself. But I only just discovered my supernatural healing, and superhuman strength. In my series of unsuccessful suicide attempts, someone found me. Jess, he found me and took me under his wing. Introduced me to more misunderstood monsters like myself, he welcomed me to his family. Showed me how to live, and for the first time I felt alive, with no regrets of who I really am. Powerful, like I can do anything no one could stop me. And I should have known he was just using me. I've done things I'm not proud of, committed crimes that are not worth my freedom. All because of my power, I thought I could do anything and there won't be real consequences. People tried to warn me about him, but I thought they were just jealous of me living my life. But when he killed my best friend, all because of a few dollars missing. b Because my friend just wanted to surprise his girlfriend. He didn't even give a chance, and I knew something was wrong. And I realized I mostly did it not because I loved it, but because it made me not feel bad about killing my friend. Because it made feel it's a part of who I am, that I'm not a monster just missunderstood. But in reality I was just hiding from the truth, and didn't want to face reality. Because who am, doesn't give me the right to hurt people like I did. I knew I couldn't continue working for him, he was the real monster. That's when Alpha Asher came in to rescue me. He saw something in me, potential to be a better me. I knew I couldn't change the past, but he gave me a chance to a better future... Maybe that's why I don't understand why he would do such a thing to you. He's harsh, but he's also fair and considerate,“ she narrates her story to me. I take in Angela's story, conflicted. I don't want to believe he would do something so nice. And I also don't want to believe that he's also using her just like Jess. " That's surprisingly nice of him. And I'm really sorry, you had to go through all that, “ I sympathize, feeling heartbroken with her troubling experience. " It's fine. We both went through hell. Hurt by the people, who we thought were supposed to be family. I'm just glad I had someone to talk to. It gets really tiring to carry all that, all alone, “ she responds, and I can almost see her fighting back tears. " And I promise to find out what happened to my family. Maybe I'll finally found closer, “ she adds. Just two girls with the same goal. ' I promise to find out what happened to my grandmother. Even if it costs me death,' I swore in my heart.
