Hurried footsteps ascending towards the house, the scent getting stronger and stronger. The more sure I am of my enemy. I listen silently, counting his movement. He was coming towards the front door, I still knelt silently next to the stain of blood listing closely.
He slowly opened the door, frown livid as he sees me inside. Looking between me and the half cleaned blood stain on the floor.
“You!! What do you think you're doing!?" He growled venomously. Without another word the door flies open with him launching to my direction. Without thinking, I toss the bucket with cleaning products on his face, spilling all it's contents on his angry face, splashing everything on the floor.
I rush to the living room, thinking how I knew it was him all along. And so clear that he's been trying to play mind games with me all this time. Balancing my knee over the surface of the fireplace, I pull put one of the swords hung as a decorative X over the place, as a formidable weapon. A little dull, but will do just fine .
As I descend a strong shoulder hits me from the side tackling me to the floor and I tumble on the floor, but I still manage to find balance, on my knee, with the sword still perfectly on my hands.
I swift up to attack, trying to strike him while he's still on the floor. But he's so quick rolling out of the way, causing the sword to get stuck in the wooden floor. But with good strength I manage to yank it out, batting him again. To only manage to graze his upper arm, leaving an open wound.
“Sh*t! “ He curses in pain though it heals in seconds. But still giving me an opportunity, now standing above him I plan to jab the blade straight through his chest. Yet quick enough he manages to block the blade with the footrest, that I drive my sword into instead. And before I can drive it any further, he twists the armrest and throwing it over his head simultaneously plucking the weapon out of my hand. It thuds on the floor right next to the dining area.
“ Damnit!" I curse, no noticing him kick my left leg knocking me off balance.
He jumps to his feet, but I also recover quickly and we battle across the floor, trying to strike each other . He is fast, stronger and counterattacks with ease. He knew to block every move I was throwing with out sweart and I could barely stand against him. He is impossible to beat, and this will be harder than I thought.
“Mind the table behind you," Stormi gives me awareness, still studying our enemy.
Deftly, I move out of the way leaving Asher to collide with the table. At quick speed, I manage to grab a chair from the table. Swinging it with mighty strength hitting him on the back of his head, the impact causing him to hit face first on the table as wood shutters everywhere. “ Let me take over," she orders, but I refuse. I couldn't let him see her yet, and I seem to be doing alright so far.
He roars angrily vibrating the floor , lifting his head as he spits out blood from his mouth. His eyes glare at me, changing it's shade to a light orange color. I should be scared, and I am scared. But yet again this man killed my grandma and that's what drives me, more than my fear of him.
“ You're dead," he swears in strong grumbles as he flips the table and making it land across the room. I admire it's strength as it doesn't shutter into pieces. Stormi in my head still fighting to get control, but I still feel the time is not now.
“Not if I can kill you first," I pick another chair, which he plucks out of my hand throwing it out of reach. But it still leaves a good enough opening for me to kick him straight on the chest. He stumbles almost off balance with the unexpected attack. And I kick him again on the abdomen and to his neck. He groans in pain spitting out more blood.
My eyes spot the sword close by, and I roll on the floor to pick it up. Before he can stop me it's already in my hand. And I'm already swinging at him.
He jumps over sofa escaping me and my blade. Before I can jump after him, he kicks it with impossible strength knocking me off my feet. I fall hard, breaking the glass table behind me in half. Glass shutter under me, it's cuts through my hands as I try to get up.
Before I can manage he jumps on my back, and I don't have enough time to react, he knocks me unconscious.
***
I force my eyes open, my vision still blurred feeling woozy, my mind scattered everywhere.
“ Wake up! That son of a b***h chained us! I told you to give me control!" Stormi protests angrily, reminding me of the events of earlier . I'm still in the leaving room, but chained to a chair. Everything that had happen still visible, shuttered glass and broken wood.
“What the hell?" I try to move but my confinements are strong. Luckily they are not silver chains, as they did not burn.I struggle under the chains trying to break free from my prison. My heart starting to pulsate, as I thought now I failed grandma. She deserves better than this, and I couldn't even stop the person who killed her.
I hear footsteps approaching from up stairs. Alpha Asher slowly appears to view with his hands above his chest. He eyes studying me, with no clear emotion in his face. And looking at him causes turmoil of anger to build inside me.
“What do you want? Let me out of here," I growl my demands, as I struggle to free myself.
“ And so you thought I'll never find out? “ He sneers. What is he talking about? Why is he saying my lines.
Enraged I answer," I think I'm the one who should be saying that line. I've had about enough of your stupid games.“ I try hard to break from the chains even though digging in my skin and I feel them loosen.
" Maybe it's about that time you let me take over now, “ Stormi notes drowning in her own rage. She couldn't wait to tear his handsome face apart. Panting up and down with impatience.
" Why did you do it? “ Alpha Asher interrupts. " Why did you kill grandma Rose? “ He growled. I'm sure his question shocked grandma even on her death.
" I so knew it. I knew this son of b*tch would try and blame it on us," Stormi growls, and I'm almost failing to control her.
“ Why am I not surprised? I expected you might do something like this," I tell him, as I knew his game long before. I'm only afraid that I might have played right into it.
“ Try anything stupid. Your head goes rolling on the ground," he threatens, as he could see the loose chains. But I'm not going to let him get away so easily, I didn't come this far to give up.
“ You think that scares me? Even if you kill me, I'm coming back to haunt you! I will never give you rest until you pay for what you did," I threaten back.
He snorts, “So is this about me rejecting you years ago? You killed your grandma just because I threw you out of the pack?" He questions. He's really good at this, all so planned out perfectly.
“Don't even think about turning this on me," I tell him. “ Do you think I don't know about the argument you had with granny a few days before she died? Do you think I didn't see that list of places, and wouldn't notice the cookies? Don't think I don't know that you killed granny.“
“What?" He retorts resoundingly shocked. “ Those were cookies I bought from your grandma's bakery cafe, and the places was just a list where I was supposed to find her 'special ingredient ', the Thorny Wheat or something. She just wanted me to get her the seeds so she can grow it herself instead of having to buy them all the time," he suddenly explains. Maybe he thinks I'm stupid.
" But why did you follow me here? “ I question him.
" Because Angela told me you left the pack alone. I had to make sure you're safe, and had to check up on your grandma. And when I didn't find her at the bakery, and they told me she hasn't been there for a while I got worried. And then I found you here cleaning her blood on the floor I thought...“ he continues. Such a wonderful story, so believable. " Do you really think I killed your grandma? “
" What do you want me to think? That you and granny are suddenly best friends now? Don't think I can't see what you're doing, “ I tell him, as I could read through his perfect plan.
" But why would I do that? “ he questions almost sounding genuine about it.
" I don't know. You tell me.“
He sighs moving behind me, unlocking the chains.
“What are you doing?" I ask, as he unravels the chains, letting them fall of the floor. Now this the part that I don't understand about his plan.
“ I'm really sorry. I just... Overreacted I guess," he says scratching the back of his head, as he waits for me to get up.
“ Overreacted? You killed my grandma, and chained me on the chair ," I remind him, questioning his judgment.
“ I understand why you think that, but if I really killed your grandma, I wouldn't have tied you in a chair and waited for you to wake up. You would be dead by now,” he says.
" Maybe that's just what you want me to think,” I point out, pouting my lips as I fold my arms. " Where are going?“ I ask as he turns, striding away.
" To find the killer,” he simply says walking further.
" You do understand that I still believe you're the killer, right? “ He suddenly stops on his tracks, she he hears my words.
" You don't have enough evidence to prove that I did it. And like said, if I did this. You would be dead by now. And no one would know anything," he says. " I wouldn't be fooling around with my victim,” he adds. His confidence is amazing.
" Are you that confident? That no one will ever know? “ I question him.
" Even if they did. None of them would have the courage to do anything about it. Now are you coming or not? “ he looks at me waiting for me to follow him.
“There are like 100+ packs in the world. What if they all come after you?"
“Not anymore. The plus was a thorn in the ass. I had to remove it," he responds. I almost don't want to believe it, and yet again the possibilities are endless.
“ So you just chose to eliminate —”
" I didn't choose anything. They are the ones who chose to gang up against me, and overthrow my pack. And as the Alpha it's my duty to protect the pack. Now let's go, “ he speaks almost impatiently. Is this supposed to scare me. Because if so...
" I feel like you're just trying to scare me, “ I mumble.
" Are you scared? “ He questions.
" No, “ I tell him.
" Then that means I'm not trying to scare you, “ he says walking away leaving me inside the house. Reluctantly, I hurry after him. And now I'm even more confused about everything, I don't know what to believe.
“Keys?" he demands already standing by the car.
" Ohh no, I'm driving, “ I tell him headed to the car. I settle on the driver's sit as he gets in on the car. Even though I'm allowing this to happen, I'm very uncomfortable. But it's the curiosity that makes me do it.
" I'm surprised Angela gave you her car. She never lets anyone touch her cars. Including me, “ he points out as he settles in the car.
" Well first of, you can afford. And don't compare yourself to me. “ I start the engine, ready to drive away.
" I know I can't compare to you. I'm just happy you guys are getting along so well. She doesn't really have friends in the pack.“
“ Well I have no reason to hate her. And she doesn't have friends, because the pack is treating her exactly like they did to me years ago. An outsider."
“ I'm sorry about what happened back then. I had no choice."
“ Everyone has a choice," I tell him, already headed out of the farm. Stormi hated the idea of me being this dangerously close to him, but I ignore all her warnings. Maybe I'll finally get something out of him. “Where are we going?"
“ The backery."
