Interesting …… very very interesting indeed. Not only is my boy flustered after seeing our sweet Cassie but he didn’t feel (or smell) my presence while he was so busy loosing himself in her eyes….. So he’s trying to ignore his feelings, be the big bad alpha who does not feel any emotions.. Well……. we’ll just have to see about that, after all I can’t let two of the people I care about so much make such huge mistake. Oh yes, it’s going to be so much fun seeing the mighty alpha fall…… In love, that is  thought Mille. She collected herself, schooled her emotions and went all the way outside and asked Cassie and Leah to come in and have dinner, before they head out for their ice cream party…. Cassie was distracted throughout the meal. She couldn’t get him out of her mind. Millie couldn’t help but feel giddy with excitement, she could hardly contain it all in…..ooh Lily would be so jealous when she realizes that I got to meet her grandson’s, dare I say mate, first….oh yes… she was more than 99% sure that Cassie was Derrick’s mate, there was no other explanation for his behaviour. Now she just needs to find a way to confirm this 100% before she starts working on the stubborn boy…….

Leah was pouting because Cassie was not listening to her. Leah was so happy and wanted to tell Cassie all about her day and her new friends and Jen’s slumber party and so much more but Cassie was just lost…... Millie found all this just too funny, who’d have known that these girls Jackie felt so protective of, would become not just dear to her but her boy, her alpha too. Millie cleared her throat to bring Cassie out of her day dreams and brought her attention towards Leah. Cassie came out of her trance and brought her focus back towards Leah, “I’m very sorry princess Leah, you had such an exciting day and I’m such a party pooper. Please forgive me baby…. let’s go out for ice cream and you can tell me all about your friends and how much fun you had…I promise to pay proper attention this time…..pinky promise…..please, pretty please, pretty pretty please”  Cassie insisted till Leah finally smiled and started chattering again….. It was like all is fine and back to normal in Leah’s little world but for Cassie, her foundation seems to have shaken to the core……

Derrick wasn’t doing any better either….He could not concentrate on work, he took his anger and frustration out on anyone and everyone unfortunate enough to come in his immediate vicinity. Finally he gave up work all together and headed out to the training grounds so he could beat the frustration out of his system. He had never heard of a human being a shifter’s mate. A mate was the lifeline of a shifter…. Mate was like a light that could balance their darkness….. bring calm to their aggression…..  mates were pure and precious to them. An alpha’s mate was special for the entire pack, for she was their Luna…..while an alpha protected , a Luna nourished…. An alpha trained pack members to be warriors, Luna taught compassion and unity to the young ones….. an alpha hunted for and with the pack, Luna nurtured the pack……. How could a mere human become Luna of the biggest pack in United States and most likely the world too….. 

Shawn Knew something was off about his alpha and best friend today. First he was mad about some chick ruining his documents then he went to Millie’s breathing fire and ever since he has returned  he has been lost and moody……yeah moody, exactly….one minute he is lost in deep  thoughts that seem pleasant, by the looks of it and the other he is shouting and throwing things and now he is beating the hell out of every single warrior sparring with him, including yours truly. If things continued this way then all warriors would be too sore and beaten up to patrol the pack borders effectively… Shawn approached Derrick cautiously, “dude if you don’t lighten up, we won’t have any warriors left for training or defence” he said. Derrick punched his current sparring partner into submission and turned back to face Shawn, “you willing to take their place, dude?” Shawn lifted his hands in surrender and said, “no thanks… I like my looks too much to come in your way when you’re like this…. Come on, we have some important pack business to discuss. you guys continue with your training,” he said looking at the warriors, “I’m taking the alpha away” No one could miss the collective sigh of relief heaved by the warriors, thanks to the wolf hearing and all…..

Like the good beta that he was, Shawn kept Derrick busy and away from the clueless pack members…. while he was in this mood. Shawn thought that it was providence that Alpha Jerome, from the neighbouring pack was throwing his usual tantrums about trade alliances and pack boundaries…. he will finally get his dues as Derrick will not be taking it easy on him… not in the mood he was in…. it will also give Shawn time to investigate the reason behind his friend’s weird behaviour. Leaving Derrick to deal with alpha Jerome, Shawn headed towards Millie….. after all that’s where Derrick was before he became difficult and moody thought Shawn. “ Millie, old girl, where are you? Come out, come out wherever you are. Old girl, my foot. I can take you any day of the week and twice on Sunday…. Don’t be like that, you know you are my best girl” said Shawn. 

“yeah, yeah…. I know…. I know, now tell me why you’re here Shawny boy…. It couldn’t be to see little ole me, after all you’re our beta and too busy to visit the old lady who used to give you chocolates and candies.”

“You trying to guilt me into a dinner date, my girl…. No need, make some of your mouth watering lasagna and I’ll come over anytime you want but first you have to help me.” Said Shawn

 “Concerned about your friend, aren’t you boy? I knew you’ll come, I could see he will go into a mood…. When he left here, last night. I’m 99% sure that Derrick met his mate yesterday” she said but warned Shawn seeing him too excited, “ uh… uh…. stop jumping with excitement, it’s not as simple…. So like I said, I suspect he came face to face with his mate but he’s not ready to accept this as she happens to be a human.”

“HUMAN …. How …. Why …. I mean how can a HUMAN be his MATE”

“Don’t say HUMAN as if it’s a bad word, I happen to be a human and quite happy about it” said Millie indignantly.

“I know babes but …. But …. you’re ….. so you.” He said trying to placate Millie. “How will she, a human, handle being in the pack … and Derrick, he’s the strongest alpha I’ve heard of …. His wolf is so strong …. How will a human mate manage him …. everything” asked Shawn concerned

“Why do you think he’s running scared?” said Millie, “I’m sure he has the same doubts plaguing him … I don’t know why you are both forgetting that a mate is a gift from the great Luna herself. She knows what’s best for her creations …. her children, she would never give any of you a mate you don’t deserve …. a mate that cannot balance your darkness with her light …. a mate that cannot take you as you are”

Shawn was dumbfounded, “I never thought of it like that … you’re right the great Luna never makes a mistake … she knows exactly what her children need and matches them to their perfect counterpart ... okay, I’m on the same page as you now … so what’s the plan? How do we get him to accept his mate because I’m telling you Millie, no one in the pack can take much more of his “new personality”
