Chapter 7

503 Words
While Leah was busy colouring her picture book, Cassie was still trying to wrap her head around that fact that despite her misgivings, she has still signed on to work for one of the most respected and successful businesses around the globe. She couldn’t believe her fortune. How often is it that an 18 year old with no prior work experience gets to work for the CEO of a multi billion dollar company? She thought.  No matter how hard she tried, it was impossible to comprehend that not only would she be able to work remotely, on a split shift at that but she was also getting an astronomical salary with very generous benefits and she didn’t even have to interview for this position…….either she was extremely lucky or something was amiss……things like this did not happen in real life, right?  She wanted to ask questions……clear her doubts but one look at the sweet, grandmotherly lady sitting next to her…… gave her the strength to remain calm….. for there was absolutely no deceit or slyness in her kind eyes. She was so earnest in her feelings about her job, the company and the CEO that it felt so wrong, criminally wrong, to harbour any feelings of mistrust. There was no doubt that the whole thing – the amazing job offer, the unbelievable pay, the awesome benefits –  all seemed too good to be true but her gut was telling her to go ahead that nothing bad can happen to her in this place……this magical town and her beautiful house with the fairytale garden. It all felt so story bookish and fantastic that she wanted to laugh at herself but somehow it was all starting to feel real……so holding on to this belief, she casted away all her misgivings and decided to grab this opportunity with both hands and give this job her 100%.  Once she decided to accept things as they were, she started enjoying work ….. there was so much to learn but it was all so fascinating. She grasped all the details so quickly that by day 3 of her training, she was doing all the work herself ….. with very little supervision. Mildred was very impressed with Cassie ….. she found her to be a wonderful young woman who had a heart of gold, took her responsibilities seriously and had lots of love to give. Mildred also found herself falling hard for little Leah …. she was simply adorable. It was easy to see how much Cassie cared about her little sister and Leah not only adored but absolutely idolized and worshipped her big sister. She had no doubt that Cassie would do amazing as her replacement and both the girls would really thrive in this close knit community, Mildred thought …… I’ll see to it that they do.
