9TH LIFE ( nine days to leave or die ) Chapter 4 Day four. part three

Seth was heavily troubled by this news because it didn’t ease his fears at all. He asked how all this is even possible and how she knows what she read in that book is true. She told him that they can doubt it but with how detailed the book was and the things she’s seen happening in this town she definitely believe the story is real. She told him that the people in this town are trapped and the worst part of it is that they don’t know that. And this is because Lady Sanya somehow makes them forget about how they came here or any vital information that would make them suspect something is wrong with this town. If you’re here she said then it’s only a matter of time before you forget there’s anything wrong with being here, and as far as you’re not trying to fight her off or trying to seek the preacher’s secret you’re save to remain trapped here till you die. That’s what the book said.

At this point Seth had no reason to doubt what she’s telling him because how else would he explain the cat dying and then the body disappearing, or the dream he had about that accident. Even his brother’s death pretty much confirmed how not ok this place is.

“So this preacher person operates as a spirit?” Seth asked. Sonia said yes, that after he died his spirit was trapped here somehow and since then he’s been trying to defeat lady Sanya through other people. But he’s very secretive about it because Lady Sanya has eyes everywhere and once she senses that you’re trying to find the secret she’ll do everything in her power to stop you. That’s why the preacher uses coded notes.

She told him that she knows all this is difficult to take in but it’s the truth, or at least what she knows about it so far. She said if not that she somehow lost the book she would have shown it to him. She said that this isn’t something anyone in this town can just confirm to him because according to the book, lady Sanya has eyes everywhere so asking around isn’t a good idea. That the only person she feels they can ask about the preacher is the lady that wrote the book. She said the lady is old but still alive and that she has a good idea where she lives.

Seth suggested that she takes him to her so they can ask some questions. Sonia agreed but told Seth that without finding the preacher’s secret it’s all pointless. And that if he’s lucky to get a message from the preacher then we have a shot at ending this. “We,?” Seth asked. She said of course that she’s trapped here In this town just like him, and the reason she’s still alive is because she hasn’t tried to do anything about what she knows after founding out that trying anything makes it worse.

“Finding out what exactly” Seth asked her. She said she doesn’t know how to explain it but she believe something happened to her and her family here. That she can’t remember it exactly but she has this strong feeling and sometimes a memory that she use to have siblings, but there’s no photos of them anywhere In the house and anytime she ask her parents they say she’s making things up that she’s the only child they’ve had since they got married. She said she think lady Sanya is somehow controlling their memories, only letting them remember the things that won’t make them suspicious and start asking questions. And if she’s right, soon him and his family will forget about Micheal now that he’s dead.

Seth sighed and said he can’t believe this is happening. He was confused on whether to tell her about the note he got earlier today or not, and also terrified of what would happen if this whole thing is true and they’re unable to break this curse. The note said he should trust no one, but his delima right now is that Sonia seem to have an idea about what’s really happening, so wouldn’t it be wise for him to trust her. He knows that his chances of ending this mess if it’s possible will be higher doing it with someone that understands what is really going on.

He looked at her like he wanted to say something but then he stopped. “What is it?” she asked, then with one thought at what happened to Michael he just opened up and showed her the note he saw this morning. She read it over and over trying to make sense of it but nothing was clicking at that moment. Seeing how surprised she was that he had this note all along he told her that he wasn’t sure whether to tell her or not because of what the message said. She told him not to worry about apologizing that she understands he’s just being careful.

He then asked her if she thinks the note was from the preacher. She took another look at it and said well the first part of the note is clear as it is, he and his family are in danger, and then told him that this is the kind of message the preacher sends to the person he’s chosen.

She pointed out that the note is clearly talking about someone that supposedly has the key he seeks, and asked him if he has any idea who this person might be. He repeated the words and got nothing, then told her he doesn’t have any idea. She told him not to worry that he should just keep thinking about it and she believes he’ll figure it out. And that when he does she’ll be here to help him anyway she can. Seth was relieved with how supportive she was and thought maybe he did the right thing telling her about this, and hopefully they can both end this nightmare. Sonia told him again that she’s really sorry about his brother, he said thanks and welcomed the warm hug she gave him.

At the closing of school that day his father told him that mr Tamu, their principal wanted him and a few student to stay back a few more minutes to discuss about an inter class football competition coming up that they wanted him to participate in. And since the school is not far from their house and Sonia knew the way back, he was ok letting his family go home without him.
