Seeing that she wasn't going to let it go they told her she could keep it only till when the owner comes looking for her. Seth wasn’t buying the idea at all. He asked if he was the only one that feels its weird to bring a cat they have no idea where it cane from into their home. His father told him he’s not being sensitive to the situation, that Eva clearly needs a pet right now as a distraction from loosing her dog. He understands what they mean and normally he wouldn’t have anything against caring for a lost kitty, but after the dream he had last night and the strange feeling he has about this town, he was just scared and concerned.
Eva was in the living room playing with her new pet, her parents were happy to see that smile and laughter back on her face since she lost puppy. Seth was in his room chatting with his friends. He was telling them how f****d up it is here and the strange things he’s been noticing since they arrived. They were not happy that they had to move that far out of the city but they understand the situation his family was in so they just feel bad that things had to change very quickly for them.
His girlfriend hasn’t stop crying since they left. All the plans they had for after their final exam this year was all gone just like that. The worst thing is that where they are is not somewhere one can just visit in a snap. Even while coming, Seth and his family had to sleep the night at one of the parks just so they don’t get here at night. His girlfriend couldn’t accept the fact that he wasn’t going to be at their graduation ceremony as final year students, and also the fact that they’re less likely to see each other again given how far away they moved.
Seth was on the phone with her trying to find more words he can use to console her. He’s been doing so since he broke the news of them moving. While still on the phone he heard Micheal crying. He went out to see if it was his usual baby attention thing. On getting there he saw Eva holding the cat on her arms while the mom held Michael and was tenderly consoling him. On Micheal’s arm he saw a scratch mark with little blood coming out. Eva told them that Micheal wanted to play with the cat and she cut him.
The mom asked Eva if Micheal scared the cat or something and Seth lashed out. “Are you kidding me right now,” he asked. His father quickly warned him to be careful with his tone. That maybe it was by mistake he doesn’t know because he wasn’t there. Seth told them that he knew bringing the cat in was a bad idea and he’s going to kick it out. Eva yelled that no she doesn’t want the cat thrown out please. The father said they’re not kicking the cat out and told Seth to get himself together. Seth was just quiet and looking, you could see that he’s boiling up and really wanted that cat no where close to them.
After they were able to stop Micheal from crying the father told Seth that he’s taking him to the clinic with his mom and that he doesn’t want to come back and hear his sister crying. His mom then told him to please take care of his sister and Seth could see the worries on her face. He said ok and went straight to his room.
After they left for the clinic Seth was on his bed with his eyes closed. He was really troubled by everything that’s happening. Something about this whole thing didn’t seem right but he can’t say anything without his parents thinking he’s just angry that they had to move. While battling with his thoughts he heard a car driving into the neighbor’s yard. He stood up to the window to see. It was Sonia and her parents. He watched them come out from the car and was heading towards their door, the moment he took his eyes away to glance through the rest of the compound and looked back he saw Sonia’s mom and dad standing and was looking straight at him. In shock he quickly removed his face from the view and closed the window. “Crazy people” he murmured.
Eva came inside his room still carrying the cat and asked him if Michael was going to be alright. Seth noticed how concerned she was and told her not to worry that their kid brother was going to be fine. Then he told her to come let them go and feed her cat. As soon as he stretched his hand to try and carry the cat she hissed and try to scratch his hand. “What they hell is wrong with this cat” he yelled. Eva chuckled and said maybe she doesn’t want to play with him. Seth said well if that’s the case then from now the feeling is mutual. It seemed like the cat would only let Eva touch or play with her.
After their parents got back Seth was pleased to see Michael doing OK. They said the scratch wasn’t infected so they stitched it and covered it with some bandage and gave him a juice box to distract him.
It was coming to the end of their second day here and it’s already been quite the experience. They already had dinner few hours ago, Eva and Michael was already sleeping. She was looking for her cat after dinner but couldn’t find her, and after few looking around for it her parents told her it should be somewhere in the house that she can continue playing with her after school tomorrow so she should go to bed.
After the day was already dark, just as they were preparing to go to bed they heard a car break noice from outside. As they went out to see what has happened they found the cat on the road side lying dead but they didn’t see sign of any car. They felt bad to see the cat dead and knew that Eva was not going to be happy with this news. The father wondered how the cat got outside. Seth was quiet and pleased that the weird cat was gone. However he wasn’t happy about it being dead because having it killed wasn’t his intention when he chased it out earlier when no one was noticing. His parents agreed not to tell Eva that it was dead, the story they were going to tell her was that the owner of the cat finally came to take her.
The father asked Seth to get the body off the road so she doesn’t see it the next morning and went in with his wife. After he ditched the body further inside the bush he noticed some of their other neighbors outside their doors looking at him again just like they did this morning when they were heading out. Ignoring how creepy it was he quickly ran inside the house and as he was about to close the door he noticed someone staring at him again through the window of Sonia’s house. “What is it with everyone and staring in this town” he thought to himself before shorting the door and head to his room.
