The cold stone of the corridor pressed against my spine as I leaned there, trying to catch my breath. I had shifted almost. Not fully, not gracefully, but enough to spark awe in the Council and silence their doubts for now.
But beneath their grudging approval, something else stirred in me.
Power.
And fear.
I hadn’t told Kade everything. Not about the dream I’d had the night before the Council summoned me. Not about the voice I’d heard ancient, female, echoing through the trees in my mind, whispering my name as though she had known it long before I was born.
That voice… it had told me, “You are not just Luna. You are the storm that will break the bond.”
