I walked back into the office feeling like I was carrying a storm inside me. Everything looked normal—Emma sorting clips, Jonas typing fast, interns running around—but nothing felt normal anymore.
Not after Oliver’s warning.
Not after the way he looked at me.
Not after he said I would “come whenever he needed me.”
Jonas gave me a curious look. “You sure you’re okay?”
“Yes,” I lied with a weak smile.
Before he could ask anything else, a soft wave of whispers floated across the office. People glanced in my direction and quickly looked away when I met their eyes.
Emma slid over to my desk. “Rosanna… word is spreading.”
My stomach tightened. “What word?”
“That you had a private meeting with the CEO.” She lowered her voice. “People are saying he summoned you personally.”
I froze. “He did, but it wasn’t—”
“Rosanna, you don’t owe anyone an explanation,” she said gently. “Just… be careful. Oliver Blackwood is not a man people question.”
Before I could respond, Katherine appeared, dragging her chair just enough to block my path.
“Well,” she said loudly, “looks like someone is suddenly… important.”
Emma groaned softly. I ignored Katherine and opened my laptop.
But Katherine wasn’t done.
“You know, Rosanna,” she continued sweetly, “men like him don’t settle for girls like you. Try not to embarrass yourself.”
Something in me snapped. “Please move. I have work.”
Katherine smirked. “Work? Or are you waiting for your next private summon?”
Emma shot up from her chair. “Katherine, that’s enough—”
But the room suddenly fell silent.
Because the door opened.
And Oliver walked in.
My breath caught painfully.
Executives rarely came to our floor. Oliver? Never. His presence alone froze the room. Jonas stood sharply. Everyone followed.
“Good morning, Mr. Blackwood,” Jonas greeted.
Oliver nodded once, his expression unreadable. His gaze swept across the room… then landed on me.
My pulse stumbled.
“I won’t take much of your time,” he said, voice deep and steady. “Before the team begins today’s agenda, I have an announcement.”
All eyes shifted between us.
I wanted to disappear.
“Effective immediately,” Oliver continued, “Ms. Rosanna Williams will be transferred from Production to my team.”
What?
The room erupted in shocked murmurs.
Jonas blinked rapidly. “Sir? Rosanna is still on probation—”
“I’m aware,” Oliver said calmly.
“But sir—”
“It’s final.”
His tone was cool, controlled, unshakeable. There was no space for negotiation.
Katherine’s jaw dropped. Emma covered her mouth in disbelief.
My heart thudded louder than the whispering around me.
Then Oliver added, his gaze still locked on mine:
“She’ll report directly to me from now on.”
The murmurs stopped instantly.
Every sound in the office disappeared.
I couldn’t breathe.
I couldn’t think.
His team?
Directly to him?
Why?
Oliver gave a final nod and turned to leave.
Just before stepping out, he paused—only for a heartbeat.
And I saw it.
A flicker of something in his eyes.
Possession?
Challenge?
Warning?
I couldn’t tell.
All I knew was this:
My life at Pearl Entertainment had just changed.
Drastically.
