The Broken Promise

The next morning, the school assembly ground was unusually quiet.

Students stood in neat lines, waiting for the principal's speech.

Ethan couldn't stop thinking about the message.

"Tomorrow. During assembly."

He scanned the crowd, but nothing seemed out of place.

Beside him, Maya whispered, "Do you think something is going to happen?"

"I don't know," Ethan replied. "But stay close."

Daniel nodded silently.

The principal stepped onto the stage.

"Good morning, students."

"Good morning, sir!" everyone answered.

"As we prepare for our final examinations, remember that your character is just as important as your grades."

Just then, a teacher hurried onto the stage and handed the principal a small envelope.

The principal opened it.

His cheerful expression disappeared.

He looked at the students.

"I have received an anonymous letter."

The assembly fell silent.

The principal continued,

"The letter claims that one of our Class Representative candidates cheated in the last examination."

Gasps spread through the crowd.

"The name mentioned is..."

He paused.

"...Ethan Cole."

Students immediately began whispering.

"Cheated?"

"I never expected that."

"No wonder he scored so high."

Maya shook her head in disbelief.

"This is another lie!"

Daniel clenched his fists.

"Someone is trying to ruin his life."

The principal raised his hand.

"I will investigate this matter thoroughly. Until then, no one should jump to conclusions."

Back in the classroom, the atmosphere had changed.

Some students moved their desks away from Ethan.

Others refused to speak to him.

Only Maya and Daniel stayed by his side.

"I didn't do it," Ethan said quietly.

"We know," Maya replied.

"And we'll prove it," Daniel added.

That afternoon, Mrs. Adams called Ethan into her office.

"I've known you since your first year," she said gently.

"I believe you are innocent."

Tears filled Ethan's eyes.

"Then why does everyone look at me like I'm guilty?"

"Because people often believe the first story they hear."

She handed him a cup of water.

"But the truth has a way of revealing itself."

As Ethan left the office, he walked past the library.

Inside, he saw Victor talking to someone.

Victor quickly handed the student a thick envelope before noticing Ethan.

Their eyes met.

Victor smiled.

Then he casually walked away.

Ethan stood frozen.

"What was in that envelope?"

Later that evening, Maya, Daniel, and Ethan met under the old mango tree.

Daniel spoke first.

"I think Victor knows more than he's pretending."

Maya nodded.

"But suspicion isn't enough."

"We need evidence."

Ethan looked at his friends.

"They've attacked my reputation."

"They've spread lies."

"They've tried to make me quit."

He took a deep breath.

"But I'm done running."

For the first time since the rumors began, determination replaced fear.

"We're going to find out who's behind all of this."

The three friends joined hands once again.

"No more secrets," Maya said.

"No more fear," Daniel added.

"Together until the truth comes out," Ethan finished.

As they walked away, none of them noticed a shadow standing behind the library window.

The mysterious student pulled out a phone and whispered,

"They're getting closer."

A reply came almost immediately.

"Then make sure they never find the evidence."
