Chapter 4- Truths

1846 Words
-Aliauna’s POV- I woke up the next morning with my blanket covering me and the TV turned off. Mateo must have done all that before leaving last night. As I climb out of bed, I notice a note on my nightstand. If you ever need someone to talk to or hang with, I’m here. Remember, you don’t have to be the tough Alpha all the time. -Mateo (sorry again) I give a little laugh, then get dressed. Once I'm dressed and my hair up, I head downstairs. Tyler and Eric are already eating breakfast when I walk in. “You ok?” Tyler asks. “Is he still here?” He hesitates, “...yes” “I’ll try to be civil” I sigh as I put two slices of bread in the toaster. I'm deep in thought when my toast pops, causing me to jump a little. I cover my toast in peanut butter and go to sit down. Tyler and Kayleigh would always bug me about the amount of peanut butter I put on toast. Just as I’m about to take a bite of my breakfast, I hear a loud bang followed by yelling. I jump out of my seat and race upstairs, followed by the two brothers. I turn the corner at the top of the stairs to find Mateo standing over the dragon, who lies on the ground, holding his nose and groaning. “Don’t you ever speak of her again!” Mateo growls so cold it would send chills down a person's back. “Mateo! Back away now!” I order him, worried that he's too angry to realize it's me. He turns to me, white eyes staring back at me, telling me Clive his snow leopard is in control. “Clive! Return control to your human!” I growl, pushing out some of my aura. He shakes his head, and his eyes return to their normal light brown. Mateo stumbles back into the wall, breathing heavily. Clive must have taken control forcefully, which drains the human's energy. “Eric, take Mateo downstairs and get him something to eat.” Eric does as told and when they're gone I turn to the dragon. His nose was bleeding pretty badly, and it looked quite bruised. It was probably broken but would be healed in an hour. “Get up.” Kyle got up off the floor and hung his head. ‘Ha! The dragon lost his spunk’ Asuna laughs in my head. “What happened?” I ask. “I asked if Kayleigh was his mate, he didn’t like that very much, as you saw,” Kyle mumbled. “I thought I made it clear you are not to speak of her, did I not?” “You did, sorry.” “Be ready by 10:30 that's when calls start to come through.” I turned away and almost walked into Tyler. “Sorry” I mumbled and walked away to my room. I'm in my room in a matter of seconds. I close my door and slide down to the floor. Why did she have to die?! Why did he have to be the new teammate? ‘Don't forget about Kyle acting weird,’ Asuna chimes in. ‘You're not helping, wolf!’ She just laughs in response. Asuna is right, tho, why is Kyle acting so nice? Where did all his snarky attitude go? Before I know it, it's quarter after 10. I already have a black tee and leggings on, so I just throw my tactical vest over top, slide my belt on, and put on my combat boots. Before I leave my room, I check to make sure I have all my gear; daggers, silver/iron bombs, a handgun equipped with silver bullets, and handcuffs. Once I’m downstairs, I head to the living room and wait for calls to start. In no time, the phone rings. I run over and pick it up. “Hello?” “State your name, badge number, and team leader.” said the dispatcher on the other end of the call. “Aliauna Malloy, 179236, I’m the team leader.” some typing was heard on the other end before the dispatcher spoke again. “There is some chatter about 5 or so rogues looking for some prey around 731 North shouters road,” then they hung up. I got up and ran into the kitchen where everyone seemed to be, “where’s Kyle?” “I'm right here,” he said, closing the fridge door. “Alright, you and I are heading out, there's a rogue problem,” I tell him. Tyler gets up, “maybe I should join you? Some backup never hurt.” “No,” I looked at him sternly, before turning and walking away, the dragon following close behind. I go out the front door and walk straight to my truck, when I start it music blasts and I quickly turn it down. “You like Eminem?” Kyle asks. “Run me through what we do when we get there,” I say, changing the subject. “Well, what's the situation?” he asks. “Five or so rogues looking for humans” “Alright, locate the rogues and take them out or subdue them, simple.” “What if there's a hostage? What then?” I ask. “My priority will always be to save the innocent, then deal with the threat. Captain… I know I was an ass when I arrived, and I’m truly sorry. I made a promise to my best friend and… well, that doesn’t matter, I’m sorry.” I decide to leave the part about his promise alone for now, “I accept your apology.” We sit in silence until Kyle speaks up again, “Captain, can I ask you something?” I nod. “You're a werewolf, yes?” I nod again. “Could you shift when you became captain? I mean it's a stupid question, you were only fifteen, but…” I freeze, not sure what to say, do I tell him the truth? ‘We need to stop hiding who we are, Ali. Tell him the truth.’ Asuna says in my mind. “Yes… Yes, I could shift when I first got my team,” I tell Kyle. He mutters something and I could have sworn he said “royal”, but we arrived at our destination and I had to focus. As soon as I stepped out of the vehicle, I could smell the rogues and blood. I scan my surroundings; some old buildings are scattered around the area, and lots of forest surround them. Perfect hunting grounds. “Search the buildings on the north side while I search the south. Don't shift unless absolutely needed. And keep your com’s on.” I order. Kyle nods in response then heads off. I head straight into the woods around the closest building. The woods seemed empty, but I could smell the scent of the rogues. I decided to go into the old building, which was three stories and had two exits on the main floor and a fire escape on the second and third floors. As I stepped on the old flooring, it creaked loudly, I sighed. Dust then fell from the roof, telling me someone was moving upstairs. ‘Gun or blades?’ ‘Blades!’ Asuna yipped. I pulled out my blades and crept over and up the stairs. What I saw surprised me. Two men and five wolves stood staring at me, but they were pack wolves, not rogues. “Who are you?” I ask, not lowering my blades. “I should be the one asking you that,” the taller man says. He looked to be about in his mid-forties, muscular, he had grey eyes and salt and pepper hair. “I’m not asking again,” I growl. “I’m Alpha Keegan Hart of Blue Haven Pack, now who might you be and why are you so close to my territory?” the man says. “Aliauna Malloy, I’m with the council. There shouldn't be any packs around here?” I lower my blades but don't put them away. “My pack is new and not yet on the maps,” he says. I nod. His last name sounds familiar, Hart… where do I know that from? Hart… Hart… Gal Hart! My mother's personal maid, she was like an aunt to me. “Do you know a Gal Hart?” I ask. “Ya… yes, she was my aunt, she died in the royal family’s downfall, the Malloy family…” He looks up at me, “so the rumours are true? A royal survived?” “Yes.” “Please forgive me, where are my manners? This is my pack’s future beta, Owen Carp.” he points to the man beside him. He was only about 3 inches shorter than the Alpha, and he had black hair and blueish grey eyes, he seemed younger, around twenty. “Don't worry about it,” I sigh. Up until this point, I forgot about Kyle and the reason we were here. “Alpha, the reason my partner and I are here is because of a rogue situation.” “Ah, yes, in here.” The Alpha moved to point in a room, and the wolves that still sat in the room moved. I followed and saw that six rogues in human form were tied up and bloody. “Well, if you have everything under control here, I'm going to find my partner and leave,” I said. “Alright, but here, take my card, so you have my number.” The Alpha handed me a small business card. Hart’s Woodworking Keegan Hart & Benny Carp 349-9103 Lots of Alphas have side jobs as well as their alpha duties. “One more thing, I don't need the news of the heir being alive spreading like wildfire just yet, okay?” I tell the Alpha and he nods. I leave the building and try to radio Kyle. “Kyle, where are you?” no answer, I tried again, “Kyle, answer your radio” still no answer. “I don't feel good about this, Ali.” Asuna whispers in my head. I smell the air, soon finding Kyle's campfire scent, I follow it to an alley in between two buildings. His scent becomes stronger the further I walk until I see him. He's just standing in the middle of the alley, staring into space. “Kyle!” I shout and he immediately snaps out of it. “Captain, did you find the rogues?” he asks as if he didn’t ignore his radio. “What the hell, Kyle? You didn’t answer your radio.” “I don’t know what you mean, captain,” he seemed genuinely confused, so I decided I'd figure it out later. “Let's go, I will explain the rogues on the way back,” I said, and we headed back to my truck.
