MIGUEL'S POV
~
I sat at my desk, reviewing documents about a potential hotel project in Lapaz, a bustling neighborhood in Accra. A knock at the door interrupted my focus. I glanced at my wristwatch - 8am already? Time flew when I was engrossed in work. "Come in," I called out, knowing it was either Andy or Nancy, my secretary. She is a graduate in Secretarialship and Management from our university who had requested to work with my company last year after graduating. The door opened, and Andy walked in, greeting me with a crisp "Good morning, boss." "Morning Andy, how are you?" I replied, taking in his sharp attire.
"I'm doing great, thanks for asking," he responded, making himself comfortable in the seat in front of my desk. "The hotel project documents look intriguing. How's it shaping up?" he asked, nodding towards the papers on my desk.
"Ah, yes," I began, "It's coming along well. The designs are almost finalized, and we're awaiting feedback from the investors. I think we'll break ground soon." His face lit up with interest.
"That's fantastic news, boss," he said enthusiastically. "This project has the potential to be a game-changer for all of us." I smiled, and before I could respond, Andy's expression shifted to one of deep gratitude.
He got up and walked around the desk, pulling me into a tight hug. "Thank you so much, Miguel," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "You've changed my life in ways I never thought possible. My parents always speak highly of you... you've been a blessing to our family."
I returned the hug, touched by his words.
"You don't always have to thank me, Andy. We're friends," I said softly.
"I know, but still, I've had friends before who were wealthy, and none of them helped when I was in need," Andy said, his voice filled with emotion. "But you, you employed me as your assistant and acting CEO in this big company, despite me still being in school and not having all the qualifications yet. I'm really thankful for that."He pulled away to look at my face.
"It's okay, you also helped me," I said, smiling. "Where would this business be without you? We help each other, so don't be like this. You were there for me when I needed friends and family."
I nodded in appreciation of his efforts and hard work. "You've been an invaluable part of this team, Andy. Your dedication means a lot."
He smiled. "Thank you, I will never let you down, I'll never be a disappointment to you, and I'll never let you regret choosing me as your friend and assistant. I pledge my loyalty to you." He said this with his right hand placed on his chest.
"It's alright," I replied. "I think it's time for work. Go check what's going on downstairs and report back. We might get a distribution today, so see how business is going. As the CEO, you need to stay informed about your employees."
I pointed to the documents on my desk. "I also have a lot to do."
"Okay, but have you had your breakfast?" he asked, making me look at him incredulously.
"How many times do I have to tell you that I always have breakfast early every day before I leave the house and go anywhere?" I asked, frowning.
"I forget sometimes, sorry boss," he said with a shrug, making me shake my head.
He went out, and I continued with what I was doing before he came in. I had to meet up with the investors soon, and I really wanted everything to be perfect so they wouldn't have any reason to doubt me. They were cautious about investing in a new businessman like myself, and I knew they would scrutinize every detail of the hotel plan. One misstep could cost me the deal.
I pored over the documents, double-checking the financial projections, marketing strategies, and operational plans. Every aspect had to be flawless if I wanted to catch their attention and convince them that this hotel would bring substantial profits.
Lunch time came and went in a blur, and Nancy ordered food for us. After lunch, I went downstairs to check on things. The building consists of four floors, each with its unique purpose.
The third floor, reserved for executive offices, was quieter, with the CEO's suite, assistant, and secretary working diligently behind closed doors. The private elevator added an air of exclusivity.
On the second floor, the Solutions Center was humming with activity. Experts provided technical support, repair services, and customized solutions for businesses and individuals. The atmosphere was professional and helpful.
The first floor, Gadget Gallery, was equally impressive, with experts showcasing the latest smartwatches, fitness trackers, and wearable technology. Customers were engaged and interested, asking questions and testing products.
The ground floor was bustling with activity, showcasing a wide range of digital products, including smartphones, laptops, tablets, and accessories. Customers browsed the latest gadgets, and sales staff enthusiastically answered questions. I nodded at employees who greeted me warmly, likely recognizing me as a regular customer and friend of Andy's.
As I observed the operations on the ground floor, I noticed the employees' dedication to their work. Despite knowing me as a customer, they remained focused on providing excellent service. Satisfied with what I saw, I headed back upstairs, feeling confident about the company's prospects.
