chapter Seven

Ryan's POV

" Rinnng!" " Rinnnggg!"

oh s**t I'm late I search for my alarm with my hand and notice it's not there must have thrown it when it went off that thing makes a lot of noise so I reach for my phone five missed calls from Jessie and twice as many from Lucy. This is bad, very bad I don't usually sleep this much but I had quite a lot to drink last night. The thing is Jessie went to visit her parents and will be gone a while I miss her but I can't do anything about it for now. I dialed Jessie's number

" good morning Ryan I've been trying to reach you since forever " I missed that voice

" I'm sorry I overslept I'll send any documents you need in a minute, " I say moving out of the bed

" no, it's fine if you're sick you should take a day off "

" no it's fine I just overslept anything errands I need to run ?"

" yes we need to revise the agreement with Ms. Johannes so I need you to get me the files and send them before ten-thirty " there's no way I can get these files on time

" Okay I'm on it"

Jessie is been gone for almost a week now she went to visit her parents the day after the conference after James miraculously managed to fix the security system

The conference

All the significant members of the Gilca Enterprises gathered for a briefing and to celebrate a successful month it's a routine that is very dear to all employees here. everyone wants to know who made the greatest change and who is the most improved of all.

The vice president Joshua is the one leading the events today he seems a cheerful man everyone is so excited. almost everyone has presented their progress and plans and it was amazing people were waiting with anticipation

" Mr. James the floor is yours," Josh said and went to take a sit the entire hall fell silent, and to my surprise, James stood from his chair with pride and a very visible smile towering the podium in all his might. His presentation was spectacular the systems were now working and we could every area from the projector. Jessie was right James is one hell of a competent barsted, how did he manage to get the system up overnight? no one knows

the conference took up most of the day we were in the office packing up to leave when Jessie said

" I won't be coming in for a while. I'll be visiting my parents, I need you to be sending me all the necessary files and documents that need my signature through email. "

" Okay, I got that?" I said she seemed to want to say something but held back " that's about it josh will handle most of the things and oh you don't have to here every day but you have to come through though and be available when needed "

It's been almost an hour since I sent the documents and I didn't get a reply yet I don't want to go and be called back or anything like that so I'll just stay in the office. she doesn't usually take so much time to reply. she would usually go through the documents and send instructions then sign. I would relay her commands then do a bit of observing and report back then I would go home if there's nothing else to be done for the day

" when is the boss coming back?" Lucy asks walking towards my desk

" she didn't say anything why do you ask ?" she says leaning over the desk now like she can't get any closer

" nothing we just miss her presence a lot around here " what is she trying to hover over me or she just likes sitting on tables?

" if you want to talk about something then sit on the chair Lucy" she moves back and sits down. Now she looks displeased but what did she expect me to do?

" I was just thinking that maybe we could be friends you know. you have been here for a while but we haven't had time to get to know each other, I think we would get along pretty well " she says shifting in the chair. this girl is unbelievable

" I think we're just fine the way we are besides I don't think my schedule can allow that" disappointment cowered her face why? I don't know

" why is that? last time I checked you had time to throw a party " just then my phone rang thank God because I wasn't planning to answer that

" Ryan I need you to tell Josh to hold a meeting on Wednesday, you need to print out the revised agreement I'll send it in a moment," Jessie says over the phone

" yes I'll do just that. Do I have to print out the other documents as well?" I asked

" yes we need a couple of copies for these too. I hope I'm not talking much of your time I'll hang up now"

she needs to come back soon I'm guessing she'll be in the meeting on Wednesday I could feel a smile spread on my face

" you like her don't you ?" oh so she's still here I was hoping she left

" what makes you think that?"

" oh please, you don't have to deny it. I could see the way you smiled while you were talking to her and you two were quite talky at the party too so is obvious "

I just stare at her like she's crazy because she probably is though she looks so innocent at first glance. I thought she was a more reserved woman but it turned out she isn't.

she stood up and left closing the door behind her
