The more they investigated on discovering who the corrupt characters were, the more he regretted not working on his own, as Cédric did, building his own empire. Tom spent hours interrogating, questioning, then reporting everything to the Council in written paragraphs. Sometimes, he felt like he was at school again, overburdened by tasks he had no desire to perform. Then, he thought about Alice and magically she would appear out of nowhere, letting every concern fall into oblivion. She was his light. She was his home. He hoped he would remember those words later, but doubted it would happen. Next to her, he lost every faculty that wasn't strictly primary. He smiled to himself when he saw her getting in half frozen, closing the door to the back garden. It appeared she didn't care anymore
