Chapter 15

256 Words
After months of poking, drawing blood and going through endless medical tests and interviews, James was finally able to get away. The world had gifted, mailed, transferred and invested in his name…tens of millions of dollars. He was under constant scrutiny and public adoration…and sadly, some ridicule for not acting sooner and that every death while he sat on the formula was on him. He chose to ignore the rantings of small, unbalanced minds. He built a retreat in the Rockies, but his malady could not be cured. He missed Amelia, well enough…but he missed Melanie in a deeper, more profound way. He couldn’t forgive himself for not telling her how he really felt. The world fell into predictable chaos. Corporate kings impoverished and guilty officials imprisoned. Governments faltered, collapsed and fell to the enraged populace. Globally, people began to heal and prosper in ways that could not have been imagined. The world was being remade. Nothing would never be the same. Curtis and Avery took up a collection from the people of Panther Pass so they could erect a monument to Matt. Matt’s story got out, making him an international hero and the fifth martyr for the miracle, along with Melanie, Irene and Reggie…and of course, Dr. Ronald Clark. A life-sized bronze statue was solemnly raised in the town square, donated by a grateful recipient of the miracle, and correct in every handsome detail. Sharon asked the renowned sculptor to do what he could with the eyes. He masterfully used blue steel for the irises.
