"Ma'am?" The driver called, he had already opened the car door waiting for me to step outside. "Oh yeah, thank you." I stepped out of the car, looking before me was a gigantic mansion with a big pool outside of it. I tried closing my jaw but just could not as I stared at the house together with the surrounding. It was secluded from other houses and had so many trees on getting there. It was like a cave, a glamorous cave away from the world.
"Mia?" I heard Nelson call me.
"You could mistake him for the richest man in the world whereas his father is" he chuckled softly, standing beside me.
"A house so big yet for only a person?!" I exclaimed, not taking my glance away from the house, not even for a second. "Well, not anymore" he replied, raising both his brows, as I quickly grasped.
"Oh, right" I answered, still looking around. "Well, shall we?" He asked, taking my boxes down.
We walked towards the door, as I continued staring at the white glass house and the pool by its side.
"Mia, to make a difference, you have to be the difference" Nelson said to me, as we stopped at the door.
"Mason might not be as bad as he seems, don't forget he has Mr Noah's blood running in him, so don't fret...just be yourself." He handed me my boxes.
"Thank you Nelson, I'll do just that" I smiled at him.
Nelson might just be a friend but looking back, he has been there through every struggle I had in my few years with Mr Noah. Although he came when I was 20, we grew a beautiful bond while working for Mr Noah.
"Go inside now, dear" he said to me as I stared, confused.
"Aren't we going in together?" I asked. "Me?... No, I uhmm... I have to go now" his breath hitched, laughing nervously. Running back to the car, he waved me one last time before zooming off.
Turning to open the door, I saw a smart lock on it. I quickly pressed the buttons, remembering Mr Noah stating the password to his house before I arrived.
My lips widened as I stepped into the house, God knows I could easily get missing without any vestige. I gently closed the door, walking into the centre of the house, I turned, looking at the house in 360 degrees.
Well, a billionaire's son is also a billionaire. .
"Sir Mason?"
I called out as my voice echoed through the walls of the empty house.
"Mr Mason?"
I called again to be sure if he wasn't really home. I quietly moved my bags to the room Mr Noah had instructed me to, the first room on the left after the staircase. I walked up the stairs, looking dazzled and surprised as I got to the room.
"Phew!!" I took a deep sigh as I pushed the doorknob open.
"Oh my Goodness!"
My jaw dropped, seeing before me the most beautiful bedroom I've ever seen.
I stepped in, closing the door behind me as I stared in awe. The queen-size bed covered with pink floral sheets, a large mirror at the side of the wall, couches and flowers all in a room. After a few minutes of admiring the glamorous room, I found my way to the bathroom. If only there wasn't a bathtub and a toilet, I would have sworn I had entered another room entirely.. how big!
I took a nice refreshing bath before going out. Opening one of the bags Mr Noah bought, I searched for a uniform to put on but found none. I flung on the same one and headed downstairs.
Getting to the kitchen, it was quite what I expected, big and clean. The floor made of marbles glittered and also the counters, everything sparkled.
“This is heavenly!”
Everything was properly arranged, the chairs, the tables, they were all in order…like no one lived here.
Except the living room, the pillows were scattered across the floor and some empty bottles, lying on the table. I took the pillows and set them back on the couch, and the cups, straight to the kitchen.
What can I say…I was already getting to know my ways around here. And honestly, the feeling was Ineffable
Alcohol?
I grabbed the bottle and returned it to the bar, across the room. After ensuring everything was in order, I headed to my room.
Looking at the time, it was already late…maybe Mr Mason wasn't coming home tonight anymore.
Only a rich man could stay out this late at night. "I mean... if I were the one, I'd already be home" I chuckled.
I took on a nightgown in my box and slid into it, surprisingly I saw my name written boldly on its back.
“Oh, Mr Noah”
Facepalming myself, I grabbed my phone, dialing Mr Noah's phone. It was already past 10, he would already be fast asleep, what was I even thinking.
~~~~~
It mustn't have been easy for Sir Mason. Watching his mom burn to death must probably be the most horrifying thing on earth.
"But why do I feel as though he isn't really as wicked as they say he is?"
"I mean... he is still a human; even though he is broken, he can't be that bad" I said to no one in particular before waving it off my mind. My anticipation of seeing what he looked like slowly died, as I began dozing off.
"If he comes and meets me asleep that will be bad" I muttered, splashing water on my face, then letting my hair loose.
After that, I left to the sitting room awaiting my new boss. I looked at the sitting room again…i just couldn't get enough of it. The thought of walking around the house or Sir Mason's room popped up, which I quickly waved off, fearing for my dear life.
I started dozing off, so I reached for the remote control and pressed a single button.
A soft, sophisticated hum filled the air as the diamond-and-gold-encrusted Stuart Hughes PrestigeHD Supreme Rose Edition television flickered to life. The 55-inch screen, framed by a decadent bezel adorned with seventy-two flawless round diamonds—seventy-three carats in total…glowed with an invitation of perfect pixels. Every inch of its twenty-eight kilograms of 18-karat rose gold seemed to catch the faint light spilling in from the city below.
I sank deeper into my custom Italian leather sofa, the world’s most luxurious television becoming my portal to the night’s entertainment.
A sudden sneeze startled me. Shifting lazily on the sofa, I reached for my phone.
12:03a.m!
Shit, how did I fall asleep?
Blinking through the blur of sleep, I yawned, curling up fully on the couch. My body drifting somewhere between awareness and dreams…until I sensed it.
The air had grown colder. The air conditioner had been off before I slept… so why is it suddenly freezing?
My eyes fluttered open, and in that instant, my breath caught.
A figure sat across from me.
My heart pounded, every ounce of sleep vanishing in an instant.
My Goodness
His green eyes; vivid, sharp and familiar seemed to pierce straight into my soul.
A strange feeling overwhelmed me, as though I had seen him before.
No Mia, This is Mason Cyrus…Mr Noah's only son.
There was something hauntingly magnetic about him, an authority that silenced the room. His lips, the color of moss after a spring rain, curved faintly as though he knew something I didn’t. With just a look, he could soothe or shatter.
And right then, I wasn’t sure which he intended to do.
He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The hush around him was louder than voices. His green eyes flickered once at me again, unreadable, then lowered, disinterested, as though nothing here was worth his attention. And yet, somehow, he had mine entirely.
Sitting with his legs crossed before me, I struggled to find my words, shivering to my core.
“Good morning sir, no night..."
Shit! Get yourself together Mia, First impression matters!
"Sir Mason, my name is M—”
“Get lost”
The words struck like a wave to my chest. My eyes widened, certain I had misheard him. For a moment, I stood frozen, searching the air for some explanation or perhaps someone else he might have been talking to.
“Oh… yes, sir.”
I stammered, looking around for nothing in particular before hurrying away.
“And…”
His voice cut through the silence, stopping me right in my tracks. I turned to face him.
“Your hair. Don’t you ever—”
His gaze flicked toward me; sharp, cold and commanding. I then realized my hair was loose. Before I could form a reply, he was already walking past me towards his room.
There was nothing deliberate in the way he moved, it was pure indifference. The quiet dismissal of someone who felt no need to notice, no need to acknowledge. His face was unreadable, carved in stillness, as though emotion itself was something foreign to him.
He ascended the stairs, each step measured and controlled. Reaching his door, he opened it with the same calm precision, then slammed it shut.
Wow Mia!
A tear slipped down my cheek before I even realized it, falling silently as I stood there with my lips parted, trying to understand why his words hurt more than they should have.
