Confusion, Anger, and Fear Nyoka greets me and I see that I am closer to her this time. I still can’t see her but I can make out a dark image of something lying down behind the bright green elephant ears and other jungle plants I can’t identify. Some seem to be glowing and feel different than my last visit. Hahahaha last visit? Like I’m here visiting not a dream. Man, I need to watch it. Why is this place changing I ask her reaching out to touch some blue glowing flowers. This is our sanctuary and the closer you get to your birthday the more alive it will become. Hum everyone is acting weird about my birthday, I mumble to myself. She must have some amazing hearing because she laughs and it sounds like a purring sound. I told you that we are special and others want to stop us from becoming what we are destined to become. What’s special about us? I ask her but she just tells me that I am not ready for that yet. The warning she gave me before comes to mind so I ask her to elaborate on who we are in endangering from. She huffs loudly, You have been denied knowledge about us from birth. I am unsure about how much to tell you about us till your birthday because otherwise you may not be inclined to believe me. How about I tell you a story of a world that is so different from the one we live in now? A thousand years ago a beautiful king and queen with their beautiful daughter ruled the world and all its creatures in it. They ruled the world with justice and as fair as possible, treating everyone like family. They loved their people and their people loved them, well most of them. This world was prosperous and not at all like the one we are in now. There was peace and harmony among all species and no one could remember a time were there wasn’t peace. At this time there was a vast diversity of species ranging from all fae types, shifter types, vampires, and witches. The king and queen were known as royal shifters. Shifters were pretty common at this time but shifter’s only magic was the ability to shift and heal. Shifters didn’t have any elemental magic only witches and fae had this type of magic. Dragon shifters do have the ability to breathe fire and are immune to it but it’s their beast’s nature. Since the royal shifters had both magic and the ability to shift they held power over the kingdom. Since the dawn of time, there would always be those seeking power no matter how much they already had. What started as a small coven of white witches called the blue moon coven, soon grew to be the largest witches coven ever. The royal palace held a meeting once a month with the leaders of each group to keep everything running smoothly. The Blue Moon Coven sent a message that they wouldn’t be able to send a representative and their apologies for the disrespect. The king being reasonable was understandable, the first time but as the months passed the communications stopped altogether. The palace sent a representative to look into the matter but they never checked back in. The king knew something was wrong. Before the king could send a group of warriors to check the coven out a young witch was allowed access and requested the king and queen’s audience. Lady Aria was her name, her name would be passed down a thousand years. She would give the palace the worst news in the kingdom’s history. Lady Aria was discovered as a seer in her people since her birth. Her mother hid her gifts from the palace because her coven leader was seeking out seers but after they were discovered none were seen again. Her mother was scared that their coven leader was getting rid of the seers and she needed to protect her daughter. A seer is one gifted by the moon goddess the gift of future sight. Lady Aria informed the king and queen of the vision she had received. The vision of darkness coming and a time when the royal house will fall. The royals couldn’t survive to rule the kingdom and the only possible way to save the future was to save their daughter. Her bloodline would give birth to the savior of the world. The one blessed by goddess Selene herself with powers to defeat the darkness. The queen’s sobbing hysterically not understanding why this would happen. She could not believe what she was hearing, it couldn’t be right. The seer was telling them they would die and their kingdom would be thrown into darkness. The king and queen took the news they heard seriously, but still met with the council members to come up with a battle plan, sending out spies to gather information and found everything to be true. Reports started with several villages being attacked by what looked like witches but they didn’t look quite normal. White witches had pink eyes and their magic was a distinct color, the attackers had white eyes and were seen with black glowing magic. The reports were that the attackers were so dark that it felt like all the happiness was sucked out of your soul. It did not take long for most of the small villages to be massacred and almost all of the fae were either missing, in hiding, or dead. Small groups of white witches went into hiding because they were killed on-site or captured by either the dark witches or people trying to get information on the dark witches. Nobody trusted witches anymore, their species were traders to the kingdom. Creatures of the night chose to follow the dark witches. The royals were slaughtered while their daughter was hid with the seer. The seer had taken the child with her and a small group of loyal protectors called the guardians. They stayed in hiding with the dragon shifters. The dragons were left alone, most people forgot they existed. Dragons rarely shift to their human side most prefer to allow their beast the freedom. A dragon shifter couple adopted the girl as their own and the seer bound her beast side to never be seen again. The girl was no more than human and as such they raised her to only know human law. She was only three when adopted so she wasn’t aware of who she was. She would never know that she was supernatural because that was the safest thing for her. The dark witches were hunting her so she would remain in hiding until it was safe to transfer her to the human world. Over time the girl had a family and soon her children were sent to live with the humans further south of the dragon village. It was the safest way to ensure that the royal line would survive. When the children were born the seer bound the bloodline to cage their beast and magic so they could live in the human world in peace. Humans had always been in the dark about supernaturals so this was the best hiding place. Unfortunately, the coven leader found one of the children. She was promised a blessing and when she didn’t receive it she found out that it was because the royals weren’t all dead. They would hunt the royal children down for a thousand years but still, the coven leader never got her blessing. She heard the rumors of the blessed one and realized that none of the royals she found had magic or a beast. She would have to wait till either she ended the line or the blessed one was awoken and took what belonged to her. She would not be happy until she was the most powerful creature in the world. She demanded the power she was promised in the prophecy. The alarm blaring in her ear woke her up with a start. She rolled out of bed not even bothering to look at Dorthy’s side of the room. After her morning routine, she was left daydreaming about the story Nyoka told her. Thinking of the dark witches slaughtering all those innocent people just for power made her angry. The thoughts of them coming after she made her heart freeze over in fear, but soon the major feeling was confusion as to why a thousand-year-old story made up in her head brought out real emotions in the first place. A slamming door caught her attention enough to bring her out of her daydream.
