Chapter 7

996 Words
Dave slid his arms around her waist and pushed her down onto his hard arousal. When she moaned softly, he took the opportunity to slide his tongue into her mouth. She guessed this was what he meant by 'better things' because their tongues began to do a lust-filled dance, chasing each other and exploring their mouths. His fingers pressed into her hips as he lifted her up then pulled her down onto his erection. She couldn't breathe and pulled back, taking in a huge breath. She opened her eyes and for a split second, it wasn't Dave looking back at her with lust-filled, heavy hooded eyes. It was the ignorant man from the cafe with those dazzling blue eyes. She blinked a few times, trying to refocus on reality, internally freaking out a bit at her strange moment. "Are you okay, Icy?" Dave asked with soft eyes full of concern. "Umm, yeah, I'm fine. I just need some air," she stuttered out, realizing that she'd hit her alcohol intake level for the evening. She untangled herself from Dave and got onto her feet only to see Mina glaring at her with hardened, angry eyes. Her arms were folded across her chest tightly, and her nostrils flared with each breath. She charged at them, looking wild and angry. Wow, this girl should not drink! "I thought you said he wasn't your boyfriend??" She growled lowly, pointing her finger at Dave and jabbing him in the chest. "I'm not her boyfriend. We were just kissing... it's really not a big deal," Dave held his hands up, as confused by her outburst as Francine was. "And quite frankly, Mina... I don't know you- you don't know me, and my personal life is really none of your business, so I suggest you back off before the two of us have serious issues." Why on earth was she so concerned with Francine's private life and who she was kissing? Whatever her deal was, quite frankly, it was rather creepy and crossing several boundaries. ...... Francine only had a 4-hour early shift on Saturday morning, so it made much more sense to stay at Nomer's apartment above the cafe than go home late only to come back again in the morning. Once they'd all had a good night of drinking, dancing, and fooling around like the idiots they were, Dave kindly offered to make sure Starla got home safe, and Mina, who still had a major attitude with Francine, got picked up by her mate, Brent. Nomer was a total gentleman and gave up his bed for Francine, snuggling down in a camp bed he made on the floor beside her. They turned the lights out, and it wasn't long before she heard Nomer faintly snoring away. The one too many beers he'd downed finally took their toll on him. She looked down at him and smiled at the sight before her. His blonde hair had gotten all messy and covered his eyes, and his mouth was held in a tight frown as he dreamt. He looked just as cute as the day they'd met at the pack house when they were 7 years old and eager to become the best warriors the pack had ever seen. They'd sit on the small wall outside the house, watching the warriors train for hours on end, transfixed by their grace and strength. It was all they ever wanted in life. Starla did too, but she also craved a mate and all the romance that came with it. But for Nomer and Francine, it was the only thing they aspired to be. She kissed her index finger and reached down, placing the kiss on his forehead gently so she didn't disturb him. Then she snuggled into the covers and tried to sleep. She tossed and turned, trying to get to sleep, but she was overwhelmed by that same feeling she got the night they watched a movie. Like something or someone was calling out to her, watching her. She knew she was a bit paranoid, but no matter how much she tried to ignore it, there was nothing she could do to stop this nagging feeling. Francine climbed out of bed with a huff and crept over to the window that overlooked the street. She swore she could see the silhouette figure in the shadows on the opposite side of the road, but the darkness cloaked them perfectly. Maybe it was Dave keeping an eye on her and ensuring she was safe, but yet deep down something told her it wasn't him. She couldn't see a thing; it was pitch black out, but it was like she was staring deep into someone's eyes, and they were staring right back at her. "What on earth are you doing?" Nomer's voice suddenly broke the silence as he joined her at the window, trying to see what she was looking at. "Nothing, I just couldn't sleep," she lied. She was beginning to make a habit of lying to people lately, and she hated it. She also hated how easily she did it too. "I think Dave is out there, probably keeping an eye on you," Nomer was focused on the same spot she'd been trying to look at. "Can you see him?" she asked, alarmed by his acknowledgment of her idea that someone was out there. "No, I can just see a shadowy figure in the darkness, but I'm sure it's him," Nomer put his arm around her shoulders and rubbed them supportively. "Yeah, of course, it's him," she tried to sound convinced, yet she could hear her own hesitation. She didn't know what was wrong with her lately, and she didn't like it one bit. "We are going to go visit Mina soon at the Sacred pack and see if we can find Starla's mate, you wanna come?" she asked, trying to change the subject as she left the window and sat back on his bed. ......
