Dave rose to his feet and offered Francine a soft smile, causing her heart to swell at his handsome and kind demeanor. She exited the booth and accompanied him to the door until they were alone.
"How are you dealing with this so well?" she asked, her hand gently stroking his cheek. She reveled in the way he leaned into her touch.
"I'm not... I just don't think you need me freaking out as well as the big, mighty alpha," he tried to joke, but his smile didn't reach his sad eyes.
