My new routine at the research center didn't go unnoticed. Whispers started swirling among the staff. "Lucas, our golden bachelor, finally sniffing around a she-wolf?" one colleague teased. "Don't start rumors," another shot back. "She's just the new assistant, assigned to work with him, not his mate." The chatter died as I walked up, everyone suddenly engrossed in their work.
