9 “I will take ye to the Wilcoxes’ home,” Uncle Joseph said, his tone not allowing for any possibility of an argument. Hannah crossed her arms and glared up at him. “Nathan said he would come here to get me.” “No, they sent a messenger this morning, said something had come up and I was to bring ye. Are ye all packed, then?” “Yes,” she replied. This all sounded very suspicious, but perhaps they had had more difficulty with Nathan’s former fiancée than expected, and therefore required some additional time to get the problem managed. At least her uncle was offering to take her to the Wilcoxes’ flat. It wasn’t as though he had vowed to never let her set foot outside again.
