A rasping cough from Hamal had Dee move to him. She stooped next to him, wincing at the struggles his lungs were having. She didn't have to know much about his injuries to assess they needed to get him out of there. His leg was broken, and by the shortness of his breaths, she guessed a few ribs, too. Hopefully, the raspiness she heard wasn’t a punctured lung. She patted his arm awkwardly, not sure what else to do. His eyes remained closed, face pinched. Feeling useless, Dee looked back at Metis who pulled a pair of short swords from his waist before jumping into the fray. Dee imagined she could hear his weapons cut the air as he slashed and stabbed their attackers. Returning her attention to Hamal, she found he'd fallen to unconsciousness. Knowing there was nothing she could do to help
